Name: Terri & Evan
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada
Type of Home: 1 bedroom bungalow
Color Inspiration: Our upholstery color choices are very much a reflection of me — I don't think I've ever made a painting that didn't incorporate either a screaming hot pink or a deep, delicious peacock blue (if not both). But our walls reflect my husband's practical, analytical side. Evan couldn't deny that the contrast was incredible when I brought home a pink cushion for the sofa, but his enthusiasm for the colour ended when we started talking about paint for the walls. The result has been a very cool, neutral backdrop for our fun and colourful fabrics and artwork. It has afforded us surprising flexibility in this room, which I thought had gone out the window when we purchased our beautiful blue velvet sofa!
Thumbs Up Voting is only activated for 48 Hours — so don't delay!
Color Inspiration continued: We're crammed between two much taller houses in an older, heavily treed part of town. Add our veranda in front to that, and we don't get a lot of light. The really wonderful thing about the colours we chose is how cozy and cavelike our home now feels, rather than the lightless beige box we took possession of back in May.
Colors Used: 'Iron Mountain' - Benjamin Moore
'Coventry Grey' - Benjamin Moore
'Peacock Tail' - Behr (in the dining room)
Color Tip: Be brave, and go all the way. If you know that you love a colour, surround yourself with it, and don't let anyone talk you out of it. That said, haha, always think through what you're doing. If you don't, you may come across unnecessary decorating challenges in the future.

:)
Awesome couch, I love that first pic!
Ah, gorgeousness! What amazing jewel tones. I want to see more of your house.
Super cozy looking and I love the bold color choices, but ditch those plastic venetian blinds, STAT!
Key to the boldly-colored living room: a neutral kitty.
I love that sofa.
That ink splat picture in the first photo looks like Bill the Cat!
LOVE! ditto to house tour requests!
Great room! Could you tell me where you got your cube ottomans?
AWESOME!!! I'm so glad to see a fellow Saskatooner here, and I LOVE that blue couch! Where's it from???
I live the sofa, too! Please tell us where it's from.
What a cozy looking living room! Like you could just plop down on that couch indian style!
I love it! This is a great example of what happens when you surround yourself with what you love and enjoy. It almost always looks wonderful. Plus the comfy kitty-cat adds to the ambiance!
I appreciate the assymetry and the fact that it's not furnished all in one period or style. Hand my a cup of coffee and get out the backgammon- I could hang out here for a while.
Beautiful! I let out an audible gasp at the sight of the first photo. My idea of perfection.
The wall behind the sofa...decals or stenciled?
I Love you Terri! Good job!
I love the colours in your living, and the colours in your house in general! Beautiful! The lovely hand painted wall design just adds to it all, so much time and dedication to a beautiful house and room! Well done Terri!
Those choices could have gone horribly wrong. But you made them sublime... Congrats.
Nice work incorporating the jewel tones, pretty.
very, very nice.
Yay Canada!! I love your cozy home & adorable kitty! Wish there were more photos.....
i love the black & white chair - where did you get it?
please tell me it was store here in Canada! :-)
Wow, I'm a little overwhelmed by the responses! Good to hear from fellow Saskatooners (ex or otherwise).
Our sofa came from Modern Country Interiors, here in Saskatoon. They have one on the floor here - we ordered that great Kravet velvet to go on ours, and we couldn't be happier! I work at Modern Country, so if you stop in, be sure to say 'hi!'
The little ottomans came from the same store, but they're made by Stylus, so I'm sure you could order them from lots of places.
That design on the wall... Hahaha, if I could go back in time, they would have been vinyl decals. As they are, I made the stencil, drew it out in chalk, and I still work on painting it in when I have spare time. You can't see this in the photos, but three of the circles along the top are completely unfinished. Someday!
This is a beautiful room! What a great choice of fabrics and colour. It will never be boring and will always be welcoming.
(The kitty seems to think so too)
Oh, sorry rouquinne! I didn't see you there. Yes, the chair is Canadian! I know a couple companies that make it. Jaymar makes it for select stores, and so does Carlton House Traditions. Jaymar's price point is more reasonable, starting at $700. I bought it at Modern Country, too.
And michpc, we couldn't agree with you more about the blinds, but we're in the middle of a kitchen reno, so they're going to have to wait! Believe me, I can't wait to do something about our window dressings...
gorgeous!!! i'm definitely bookmarking this for inspiration! i love that peacock blue/teal sofa!!
can you share where the artwork is from, or did you paint them? the blue paint splatter one, and the purple one on the wall? i LOVE them!!!
I am coveting that couch!
lovely!
My living room is set up very similiar, t.v. right by the front door, couch in the same place, window and access to dining room. I wish I had your small b/w chair, love it!
Ah, such a cozy room, the colours match up so well, I love them...kind of that moroccan feel to it. Unlike the other posters though, I don't think the black and white chair (although I love it as b/w is one of my favorite colour combos in fabric) fits the room (there isn't a pic of the room in it's entirety, but I can visualize it)...And just a thought...a roman blind on the window in a muted colour of the gold ottoman and a small round multi-coloured rug in the floor area of the door..Pier 1 has some great ones that I'm sure you'd fall in love with and would match up perfectly! But otherwise, a perfect entry for this contest as so many others I've viewed have not shown the bursts of colour as yours does...well done!
Fabulous colors! This is one of my favorites this year.
@erinpearce...
when she talks about color inspiration in the post she says "I don't think I've ever made a painting that didn't incorporate either a screaming hot pink or a deep, delicious peacock blue (if not both)."
the third pic has what looks like an art studio in the background.
STYLeyes, you're right. They're both mine. We're working on our art collection, but its still pretty limited. I hang my own art around the house and constantly rotate it as it waits to leave the house.
these colors are so inviting to me!
Your room is so beautiful! I voted for you all the way through!
