- Inspiration for my palette:
- This was originally the dining room, and when we moved in, it was painted a very dull sage green. We wanted something warm and lively, and this wall colour was lovely with our dining furniture. A couple months in, we decided this space would actually work better as our living room. Suddenly my blue sofa and purple rug were in my (very bright) coral room, which I had never intended when we painted! I also happened to have a canvas that tied these colours all together - this room is a happy accident. It shouldn't work, but I swear it feels fantastic to sit here while my husband cooks supper. I can't wait until we install a wall of shelving where the very large painting is hanging out; then I'll get play with these colours all over again!
- Colors used in my room
- "Funny Valentine" by Behr (a very pink coral), "Oxford White" by Benjamin Moore, and the lovely blue of our velvet sofa.
- Tips for using color successfully
- Choose colours you love and follow your gut, despite what others may say. When I showed people the "Funny Valentine" paint chip, they looked at me sideways. Now, people comment on how much they love it, almost as soon as they enter the house.

Room for Color
Love how the colors compliment each other. I agree...it shouldn't work but it does.Very nice!
Is there a source for your canvas paintings? Love those colors!
The room looks great but frankly I think any space would feel good to sit in while a husband (or anyone else) is cooking.
This room is amazing. Im curious about how well the trunk works as a coffee table. Ive been looking for a coffee table for forever, and love the look.
Hi Tracy! The paintings are my own - that's why they were just kicking around. :)
Xtina, the trunk works fine, but we're on the look-out for something to replace it. It was my grandmother's, and it's starting to look a little more worn than I'd like. Also, my husband always complains that it's a little too high to put his feet up on comfortably (part of the extra wear, I suppose). It's a good size, and I like the storage, though!
Yay! Go Saskatoon person! I love the colours, neighbour.
It does work very well. In pic 2 the entryway looks very unfinished compared to the WoW of the LR; I'd remove the cube & add a 3rd pic on that wall. Like the trunk; perfectly narrow & good for storage. All in all, aring, different & successful!
i LOVE your artwork! and i LOVE your room! wow!
I love your art as well. Your use of aqua & black in multiple rooms is clever. Your trunk is gorgeous. My grandparents' cedar trunk is beautiful, efficient storage; but, not as a coffee table in my space (for the same reasons that you mentioned). I placed it in a better place topped with a beautiful, jewel-toned table runner. A cushion (made with upholstery remnant) may be in it's future.
love the artwork as well!
