In the lush woods adjacent to scenic Gardiner's Bay, our white clapboard and glass home represents a casual and eclectic mix of mid-century finds. We steered clear of a sterile take on modernism, and opted for homey shapes, textures, materials and tones that celebrated the woods and shades indigenous to our locale and favorite period of the 50's & 60's.
Shades of sun-dappled leafy green are pervasive. Period commercial art and "Hollywood at home" photography adorn the walls. A Robesjohn Gibbings sofa and Bruno Matheson chairs living comfortably with IKEA pieces and yard sale "steals."
The mood is one of ease, comfort and wit that provides a ticklish respite from the shabby-chic aesthetic that has come to narrowly define the Hamptons style.

Agreed plumeria! This is a nice house but some of the things in the first photo look photoshopped in, like the yellow stools, the plants, and the clock. In fact, the kitchen looks more like an architect's rendering, hmmm...

First Photo: I don't think it's photoshopped at all.
It appears to me that it's just the vibrant yellow and dark surfaces contrasting against the white walls and accessories, and the bright light entering through those big windows (notice the reflection of the light on the cabinets and the washed out upper-left corner?) giving the room a cool/surreal glow.

i'd just like to comment on the clock, the yellow bar stools and the blue blue pool...its all real. i rented this house a few years back and it is more fabulous in real life than in the 4 photos. too bad we can't see the bedrooms (3) (mine being the green room and besides being en suite and huge had some fantastic chinese painting of a woman with blue skin) and the study. ask terry to send you some photos. its is a real piece of long island caught in the snare of mc mansions and phoney blahblah. i love it! unfortunately they won't sell!

Funny the things folks obsess on! Beyond the titillating Photoshop debate, what I am really interested in is the decor; specifically, the dining room chairs. Love them! Are they vintage? If not, where did you get them? If so, where did you get them?! And is that there original color/material? What period are they from? Clearly, I am obsessed with them! Thanks
I too love the dining room chairs. They are shapely and sexy. Also, I'm interested to know what species of wood was used to make the kitchen cabinets. The grain is beautiful.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS...
THE CHAIRS were a real steal, I found them at a yard sale about 14 years ago in Sag Harbor. They were cleaning out the house of an elderly women who had just died. It was a very modest home- and these chairs were part of her "kitchen set."
The apple green upholstery is vinyl (yep!), which I love for its indestructability and Windex-ability. Originally, the wooden legs were stained a dark-ish forest green, and they came with a matching table, I opted to pass on the table because I knew I would be refinishing the wood (the green on green did NOT work) and plus it was rather small.
FUNNY THING: About 5 years after I bought these chairs for $8.00 (yep) apiece, I caught them on 1stdibs.com. Some sharp guy had amassed 10 of them, painted the wood black and upholstered them in cream raw silk- and, get this- wanted $12,000 for the set of 10. A hearty self-pat on the back for that!!
RE: KITCHEN CABINETRY...
A little story here too. Bear with me. When we re-did the kitchen, we had chosen the wood (pecan) for the cabinets from an inch-square sample. It was a medium light shade of wood with a little more depth than the usual fare.
But, when they were delivered, what to our wondering eyes should appear... startlingly random gradations of grain. It was quite a shock.
Our designer was as startled as we were, and magnanimously offered to have them returned. However, once they went up and we digested the initial shock, I rather liked them. They nicely echoed the woodsy tones of all the trees visible through our huge windows.
I like the abstract quality of the grain very much. Chalk it up to one of those happy accidents.
THE COUNTER TOP: Short story here too. Originally, I had chosen something called CaesarStone in medium gray. When it was installed, aside from the fact that the "look" was flat and pasty, I discovered that EVERYTHING seemed to stain it-- even water! This was an absolute nightmare for a mild obsessive like myself. Even bleach, which was suggested to use for cleaning, would not remove the stains. I was livid.
So, a few barks to my designer and demos of the "issue," and she was on the phone to the manufacturer. They sent over a team of investigators to see of they could "counter" my complaint. But, they couldn't. So, it was ripped out and replaced with the honed granite you (sort of) see in the pic. It's a fabulous surface-- incredibly forgiving-- and almost the same cost, if not less than the made-made crap that first went in.
