Name: Tess & Jesse of CozyLittleCave
Location: Mt. Lebanon — a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
After just graduating, moving across the country, and buying our first house about 6 months ago, we've done our best to create a warm, playful home for ourselves while sticking to a budget.
Merging the styles of an artist and a scientist has been an amusing endeavor as well, and while a home is always an ongoing project, we've finally reach a point where we're thrilled to call it our own!
Thanks Tess & Jesse!

Totally dig the sheep - definitely stealing that!
How did you get such great artwork on a budget?
The sheep are totally awesome!
who is that cutie dashing around the corner in the last photo?
I love that living room to bits!
Tess explains on her website (cozylittlecave.blogspot.com) about the artwork (isn't it fabulous?) - I emailed her a while back to ask her the same thing - but the sources she used no longer work, or at least they didn't when I spent the better part of a few days searching.
ALAS.
Nicely done. Having a problem getting passed the skin under the couch with the "don't kill our wildlife" art above the couch, however.
love this AND <3 pittsburgh!!
agree, great artwork for being just out of school, and cute dog butt
The skin looks fake to me so maybe it's supposed to tie in together?
Aww thanks guys!
As per artwork, I collect vintage WW2/WPA reproductions; some were bought over the years & some were printed super cheap. I found original scans in the Library of Congress's archives, cleaned them up in photoshop, printed them using a coupon at an online photo printer, and framed them in clearance Michael's frames. I've also collected prints of some of my fav paintings over the years. Original paintings are my own.
As per the sheepskin under the poster (sorry, not a fake), I've had them for years and it seems wasteful to just throw them away now when they're useful, so they stay (somewhat ironically) and Pepper attacks them and lounges on them throughout the day.
That's Pepper the dachshund in the last pic, and Skitchman the chinchilla can barely be seen in #2 lol.
More, please.
I have a strong urge to center the dresser (pic1) under the three posters! And the middle one is hung a tad too low... Sorry, symmetry OCD.
Are there two bedrooms? I like the white-gray-black scheme in pic4.
just lovely!! what a sweet baby turning the corner!
more pics please!
I think it's really Skitchman's apartment; Tess and Jesse just live in it.
That said, love the sheep, the WWII posters and the dog butt.
The sheep crack me up. Love it!
(And my first thought for pic 1 was also to center the dresser. :) )
Okay the sheep.....they made my day. Whee!
I've actually tried centering the dresser, but it's balanced by a corner built-in on the same wall @ the other end. Centering it made the room feel off-kilter for me. :/ As per the picture asymmetry- that's because when you collect them over the years you find out the frames are all just a teensy bit different sizes (very frustrating)!! If we tried aligning perfectly, it stood out, so this was our only solution (apart from the uneconomical buy all new frames). lol
And yes, Skitchman THINKS he owns the place. :)
i think not centering it looks fine! creates even more space.
I live there! This is so awesome and creative!
For those interested in the WPA posters, I buy stuff from this site every once in a while and they have a good selection of those and other vintage advertisement reproductions:
http://www.artsnotdead.com/ They're really good quality and most hover around $20.
Is that a Shozo Sato kabuki poster in the last shot?
Yes, the sheep are adorable! Also, I'm a big fan of the vintage posters, not to mention the bright color scheme. Nice work! :)
tyrone t rex, yes actually! it is indeed a shozo sato kabuki poster you spotted! My parents have had it since their grad-school days & now it's mine. Of course I never actually knew what it was until I studied dance in college lol...
It really is a cozy little cave, nice!
Also, I second the printing of posters. Free art is the best kind.
I've printed a couple of posters from here to put on my walls at home: http://virtuallibrary.cincinnatilibrary.org/virtuallibrary/vl_Photos.aspx
Anyone still interested in finding hi-res images of old vintage posters, I re-found a way to get at the Library of Congress scans. I just posted some instructions on how to find them here...

Hope that helps anyone wanting to look for a cheap solution! (although it might take time to search through them depending on if you know what you want!)
Sharp, and bright! Thanks for posting, love the art.
LOVE the sheep!
great place, nice posters :)
Lower that picture over the couch -- too high.
