The city of Pasadena is doing its part trying to encourage residents to change 10 standard light bulbs to CFLs by sending every single household (53,000) the Power of 10 Challenge Kit during the months of August and September. Each kit contains two CFL lightbulbs, a recycling pouch for safe disposal of CFLs, and an order form for $75 worth of free CFLs from Pasadena Water and Power.
For more information on the Power of 10 Challenge, check out the webpage here.

This is great! I would like to find out what the result of this switch is over the next year and into the future.
Very impressive!
In an entirely different way, I was really impressed to learn that my small, rural town (<10,000) offers a 50% rebate on CFLs. When we bought our new house, we took advantage of the offer to switch out all the bulbs in our house--it was 36 bulbs!
This is wonderful! All cities and towns should encourage use of CFLs.
Kudos to Pasadena for not only talking the talk of environmental issues, but walking the walk as well. I hope more cities, especially larger urban areas, such as New York and Los Angeles, take note.
Last Friday, the Los Angeles DWP dropped off paper tote bags w/2 CFLS and an energy conservation handbook on the front walkways of all of the homes in my neighborhood.
Did any other neighborhoods in the LA area get a goodie bag as well? Would love to know.
Thats wonderful! Some consumers scorn at the price when standard bulbs are only .75 cents for four. I hate that I can't put them in my existing ceiling fans wit dimmers... They buzz and cut in/out. Fyi, cfls can't be used with dimmers.
