While browsing Flickr we came across this cool DIY kitchen storage idea from bloggers House & Fig. They needed an affordable makeshift kitchen storage solution, so they came up with this! The whole thing cost under $20. Each box was purchased at Scrap San Francisco for $3 each, and the fasteners were 0.30 each. Using just an IKEA steel bar, they put together this shelf in under an hour.

super cool...i love this...i have been trying to gather a few cigar boxes and wine crates...and was thinking a similar shelving idea...
where can i find wine boxes?
Ask around at local wine shops. I've found that they sometimes give them away for free.
for a minute I thought this was a post about box wine and I was all kinds of excited
this is cool too, though!
Great ingenuity. It might be a good idea to seal them with polyurethane if you tend to make a mess in the kitchen (like me). But my biggest concern is, why don't they have a wall?
I have stacked wine boxes for storage of glassware and wine next to my wine fridge. I attached them with an assortment of mini C clamps. The idea was partially inspired by House of Fig (what a beautiful way to deal with a kitchen reno) and also by this post: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/at-email/how-to-make-shelving-out-of-boxes-featuring-the-ikea-bintje-boxes-080720. I got the wine boxes from a local restaurant where I am friendly with the wine director and also from a wine store near my former office.
I did a House Tour a while back & my friend Chris used wine boxes for his cabinets. I thought it looked great!

The shelves are great, but what's with this wall?
