DreamingGreen whose plant lamp, the plamp, was profiled on ATSF has come up with a new idea, The Air Plant Curtain...
Air Plants, a relic of the 70s which we recently fell in love with all over again a few weeks ago, are uniquely suited to double as a curtain, whether as a divider to bring warmth to modern room or to screen off a less than favorable outdoor view. Hung from the hooks that usually hold vertical blinds, they only need a spray of water every week to keep fresh. brilliant!
I hang my bromeliad in my bathroom window in a similar fashion. It's no curtain like this, but still looks cool. And, this is the best possible location for the plant's health, too. Cool idea.
I worry about watering though. I bring mine down once a week for a dunk in water, and once a month in a water-fertilizer mix. This looks like it would be a lot of effort. (And yes, I know they are air feeding plants, but they do better with a little assistance - in NYC the air isn't especially humid, save for this weekend!)
They have these at the 2121 Lofts on 7th place, but of course, they're all dead.
I want to find this beautiful, but at least in this pic it's creepy.
i like air plants but i agree - the effect is kinda creepy in that pic.
amt230, what kind of fertilizer do you recommend? i haven't tried that....
Eeeewww. That looks an awful lot like the Spanish moss that grows on the trees here in FL. All I think about is those nasty little "red bugs" you can get if you feel the need to play with that stuff. Itchy!
The suggested fertilizer for bromeliads is 17-8-22
There is a great fertilizer created just for air plants called Epiphytes Delight.
