I updated the art hanging over my bed this weekend. Because I work for a design website, I decided to take my time to really measure out where the canvas should hang—you know, instead of my usual method of just squinting at the wall and taking the best guess.

But while standard dimensions can be a helpful place to start when hammering holes into your walls, the "right" measurements don't work for every decor situation. (As anyone who's ever stepped back after measuring and been disappointed because something doesn't look right.) Herein lies the visual gift of eyeballing. When you use your peepers to find the perfect art placement, you can visually take into account all the unique elements that make up your room.

Use these flip cards below to see what the "just right" placement of art feels in these different rooms. As you can see, there's no "right" measurement between the bottom of the art and the furniture piece underneath it. There's just a feeling that you get when art "clicks" into the right spot. These flip cards just might help train your eyes to eyeball art.
