The Automated Apple Condo

What do you get when you cross the cool features of Apple's products with a sexy home automation system that controls thermostats, lights, and shades? Can you say the coolest Baltimore condo ever? Check out the bronze winner of Electronic House's 2011 Home of the Year, after the jump.

The owner of this fantastic condo wanted to be able to make his own personal tweaks to this custom built system after it was installed, so the boys at the electronics installation firm, Gramophone, decided it'd be best to set him up with the Control4 Composer Home Edition. Not only does Control4 already have an app for Apple's iPhone and iPad devices (something that owner specifically asked for), but the convenience of having everything in one system makes closing the shades from the comfort of the loo all the more awesome.

Speaking of shades, the existing Lutron shading controls were also customized to have the similar blue LED-backlit buttons to make the condo's Control4 touchpads. Along with an integrated HiFi surround system, 60-inch Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma, and Apple Airport Express (for AirTunes), you instantly have the perfect high-tech setup to match the condo's cool and modern concrete aesthetic.

But above all that, we're digging the ZigBee-enabled occupancy sensor at the front. This signals the Control4 system and sends an e-mail whenever someone enters or leaves the room. Gramophone also claims it's possible to develop a solution that would recognize the owner's cell phone and send him an e-mail only when a stranger steps into his home. Now that's futuristic!
