Somewhere along the way, the trend of hanging, bare-bulb light fixtures went from being a new trend in the bedroom to a look that’s here to stay. Read the reasons why this look has gotten so popular, see inspiration from gorgeous bedsides and find ways you can buy or DIY this look.

Why the bare-bulb look works:

For one, the bare-bulb look is incredibly versatile; it’s a simple look that works with a lot of very different decor styles.

It also functions well—the lack of a shade means it can be low profile and fit in compact areas, but you still have enough light for reading in bed.

It’s great for small spaces—the non-existent footprint saves space for other bedside necessities.

It’s relatively affordable to buy. There aren’t a lot of components to these light fixtures, and the look has become so popular you can often find options at low prices.

It’s very easy to DIY. Again, there aren’t a lot of components involved, so making a light fixture yourself isn’t a stressful affair. And you’re really only limited by your creativity when it comes to crafting your own bare-bulb look—from the color and length of the cord to how the cord attaches to your wall—there are a lot of different ways to make this look yours.
