New York apartments are infamous for their lack of storage. We've visited many that provide no closet space at all. There are some good options out there for installing vertical storage systems directly into walls, but who really wants to invest that kind of cash in a rental?

Cue The Bench Rack. Made of powder coated steel and solid elm, this contraption by Vik & Fougere not only creates temporary hanging storage, but also makes use of the space above a floor with a sturdy shelf. You can even use it as a bench if you're really strapped for square footage. The Bench Rack is set to make its first public appearance at Toronto's IDS Prototype Exhibit in January. We certainly hope it goes into production soon!

If that had a true shoe rack on the bottom it would be perfect. I think an Ikea hack is in order.
This would be a GREAT place to hang and store my costuming and sewing projects. I have the rack already...
I agree with priscilla. And Ikea hack is certainly in order...
The shape, the angle is what makes this work better than most racks too. Mine already has a shelf on the top and the bottom. A lot of these are just not strong, but I can see how the angled shape of this frame could work..
This does look handy! Unfortunately, I suspect this also is not a particularly affordable investment for an apartment-renter, based on the lack of price listed.
