The beach is just better with music. And I don't mean that guy playing guitar three towels down. I mean high quality, portable sound. However, speakers and water don't have a long history of going together. These speakers challenge that notion and are perfect for an afternoon of beach lounging with a little Barry Manilow.
Here are three affordable options which have a proven track record for standing up to sand and sun:
Photive Hydra ($59.95): Sure, the Hydra is somewhat boring to look at, but it's definitely one of the most rugged of the speaker options here. It should also stand up to really hot temps thanks to the thickness of the outer casing, which can be a problem with some of the more plasticized speakers.
RuggedTec RoqBloq ($69): Try to forgive the name of this speaker and appreciate it for its ultra compact size and smart design. The casing has an extra metal layer on the back, which means it can stand up to sand and rocks easily. Obviously a must have for beach goers.
Turtle Shell 2.0 ($129.95): We've recommended previous iterations of the Turtle Shell in the past, because of its smart design and quality sound. However, I'm even more excited about the 2.0 model, which is specifically meant for outdoor use. Its plasticized casing and additional colorways make it an easy winner.
