For as long as I can remember my Grandmother had the same sofa in her living room. It was gold velvet with large oriental designs on it. Even though I hadn't gained my design chops yet, I still knew it wasn't exactly attractive, but that didn't matter because to this day, it's still the best nap couch ever. You laugh, but this is important people!
Now this might sound like a silly post to some, but napping is serious business. For many (especially those without a bed they truly love), naps provide a better recharge of the batteries than a good night's sleep does. It doesn't matter if that happens lying down, it could be in an old chair, your parent's recliner, or that thrifted love seat your roommate insisted on bringing home.
For many years it was the gold sofa I spoke of previously, but more recently the best spot in the house for a small snooze has been a sofa found on the curb during a large item pick up day in the suburbs of my town. The cushions are down and all ability to stay awake is lost the second you sit down. Where do you get your nap on at? Let us know below!

I haven't flipped the cushions on my sofa in years because I don't want to mess with the sweet narcotic bliss that is the way that it cradles me just so when I nap. No matter how stressed I am, I can always sleep on my sofa. I LOVE YOU SOFA!!!
Its all about the Lazy Boy recliner and a cat curled up in your lap...those two things combined are better than sleeping pills or warm milk and cookies. Went home at lunch, sat down for two minutes and Saki (my kitten) curled up in my arms and I was almost out. If I hadn't forced myself to get up, I wouldn't have made it back to work.
I had a huge puffy black leather sofa, so comfy. That sofa got me thru various bouts of the flu, a sprained ankle and a torn calf muscle.
I could literally lie on it all day long with my tissues, crutches and the dog.
I used to be able to nap on my big old Newfoundland dog Oslo (160 pounds of pure cushion, who didn't mind the cuddle). But she passed away last September. Now I'm back to the couch for naps. Not as comfortable, but I'm drooled on far less.
I just bought a sofa that I loved the look of but was worried about its napability. Shortly after it was delivered I confirmed that my doubts were unwarranted!
We inherited a super ugly couch from my grandparents that turned out to be the best couch I have ever sat on.
...I'm in the process of recovering the cushions so we can keep it and not get a headache from looking at it.
I had a cheap Sears couch that had an odd effect when you napped - it would save up all your body heat and then suddenly release it on you all at once. You felt like a flamethrower had been turned on.
My much-better Room & Board couch is still too nice to drool on, so I nap on the bed.
it's less about what furniture as it is about how to get the kids to agree to it! Love the Boston, BTW!
Insomniac here. I had such a bad bout of it a few years ago, I began sleeping on the hard-as-a-rock futon in the living room and haven't moved since. Now the couch too, provides good sleeping. Anything that does not yell, "you must fall asleep here", is fair game. Plus by the time I decide I need a nap, I'm usually exhausted to the point where I can't stand up anyway.
sometimes i think the best naps are out in the living room, or somewhere besides my bed. i personally love big comfy, L-shaped couches to spread out on!

My grandmother had a couch that no matter who sat on it they would fall asleep... visits would come over and start to doze off when sitting on it. It was either super comfy or had some sort of sleeping toxins in it... it was a thrift find.
as for napping... I can nap anywhere, whether it be my comfy bed or my head down at my work desk.
At the foot of my bed. Something about changing positions like that turns on the "sleep immediately" switch and I'm out for a good 20 minutes, or whatever i have time for. Works well for nights when I can't sleep, either. I wonder what that's about?
We have a sofa at our shore cottage that was some office/executive furniture that was being discarded. It's ugly as hell - in shades of rust and brown, with fabric is in raised velvet-y stripes so that when you get up you have red indentations/stripes on the back of your legs (or cheek).
However, people actually call dibs to sleep on it over one of the guest beds because it's so comfy. :)
If the back were higher (making it a better couch for sitting), I would "borrow" it and re-upholster it for my own house.
The picture is hilarious! I totally use my dog for a pillow when I nap. So I guess she's my perfect nap furniture.
for me, there's something really comfortable about napping on the floor with an old pillow and the blanket my grandma knitted for me when i was a baby... maybe it's the nostalgia, i don't know, but if i want to fall asleep in an instant, that is the recipe for me!!! (wait... am i too old to have a "blankie"?? haha)
Chaise longue section of the sectional sofa. Sigh!
The title of this post is a preposition circus.
I nap under a blanket on the sectional
In my experience, there is a positive correlation between hideousness and nap-ability factor. The worse it looks, the better the nap.
Sigh.
The overstuffed sofa in my tv room is sooo comfortable for naps. Fortunately, it's kind of hidden away under a slipcover and in a little room hardly anyone sees.
I envy all you people who can 1. sleep in the middle of the day and 2. not feel like warmed-over crap when you wake up.
A long sufferer of the odd migraine, "napability" is essential for my sofa. My last sectional could fit my 5'4" frame and my German Shepherd full stretch - and boy, did we nap together! After moving overseas I have started searching for a sofa, for my new home in Los Angeles. After good looks, hardy fabric type, and strong construction the next most important requirement is that horizontal-comfort factor. Essential to test drive too - shoes off, I'm layin' on that sofa!!
double papasan! just bought one off craigslist for a fraction of the price.. LOVE IT! the kitties love it too.
My parents have a wicker set of furniture that isn't my taste, but I guarantee my sister and I will fight over it, because neither of us has had a better nap than when we're sprawled out on the couch. Seriously. I totally believe that not pretty can equal seriously comfortable.
My leather "modern" futon. I nap and real sleep on it. I love it.
My Ashley Recliner has the best sedative oils in the cover. My BF and I race to be first home to the chair.
Womb chair with ottoman!!
Our Togo.
Our 4 year old fell asleep in the corner, on a sheepskin. My husband is dozing draped over the ottoman. When we had 3 cats, we'd come home from work to find each one curled up and snoozing in one of the 3 divets of the 3-seater. I've had the odd tipsy dinner guest lay down and drift off.
I know I post regularly about how much I love my Togo, but I really love my Togo...
