We've been on the hunt for an iPad stand with both functional and aesthetic appeal (our iPad currently fills bedside duty as both library and alarm clock). Sure, there are plenty of iPad stands out there, including some very affordable options, but none yet we've fallen in love with. But today, we fell in love...or at least, felt the semblance of a strong crush...for the Twelve South Compass iPad stand.
The folks over at Twelve South shot us news today about their latest Apple-compatible creation (the same company that brought us the Bass Jump), the Compass iPad Stand, and we knew we had a contender for an iPad accessory to invite into the household.
The compass-shaped steel stand offers a stable form factor (silicone feet prevent slip or surface scratches), convertible from easel mode, to a slanted work mode when typing is required, down to a folded down shape, which can fit into a pocket. And importantly, the Compass looks like it was designed to invisibly merging with the J. Ivey design nicely, instead of the various other solutions that bring too much attention to themselves (there's something to be said about that .69 cents Staples card holder solution).
Beauty like this comes at a price though: $39.95 over at Twelve South (free shipping for a limited time). Is it worth nearly $40? It depends what kinda of Apple completist you might be; we'd err on the side of "yes!", but then we're sticklers for cohesive detail and quality manufacturing to match Apple's designs (or any designed object, for that matter). Your mileage, and willingness to invest, may vary.
