We had a full house over the holidays. Family came from all over the country to our narrow rowhome and it was really fun. The only problem we seemed to run into during the process was finding enough space to cook. There didn't seem to be enough burners and we said if we ever hosted again, we'd make sure to have a few portable burners available to make things easier.
• Origine: Origine is a single burner cooktop from Glem Progetti. The design is straight up sexy and according to the company made with pure Italian design in mind. The glazed ceramic surface is also much more resistant to accidental bumps, scratches and corrosive substances than marble or granite.
• Maxi-Matic ESB-301F Elite Cuisine Single Cast Burner 1000-Watt Hot Plat, $19.99: If you're looking for a single burner with a self cleaning feature, look no further. We love the idea of the 1000 watt self cleaning feature, but you'd certainly have to make sure to stand back while it's doing its thing. It weighs just over 7 pounds, so it's light weight enough to make it super portable. Plus, it has a cool touch base.
• Waring Pro DB60 Portable Double Burner, $79.95: If you're looking for something a little more than just a single burner, Waring makes a double portable burner. Individual adjustable thermostats; separate "on" and "ready" indicator lights, 1300-Watt large plate and a 500-watt small plate. Each plate is made from durable cast iron.
