The simple cantilevering design by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is a perfect "canvas" for lots of different treatments. From classic black leather to a rather strange choice of floral upholstery, the Brno chair is shown here 5 ways:
There are lots of examples of the chair that fall somewhere in between solid black and floral, like the cowhide or red upholstery shown here. What's your favorite treatment of this classic design?

Sprout Side Table
I feel....bad for that beautiful table cloth...to be surrounded by ...not so beautiful chairs.
Especially that second one. Whoa ugly.
This is one of my favorite chairs. So graceful & sleek. However, that floral one is awful...
I love these chairs! (Except for the flowery one.)
That flowery chair looks like some sort of grandma's couch/Eames lovechild abomination...
Love the second pic. Very elegant and understated.
Third! I mean third! Gah, flower chair is ruining my day...
The Brno Chair is one of my favourites, but I prefer the tubular (not flat) arm version.
Don't like the brass version (that has to be a knock-off, nor the flower version -- the arms give it away as a knock-off too).
And that tablecloth treatment is hideous -- too fussy, with too many layers. (and needless to say, their version of the chair is not a Knoll).
#5 = ohhhh pretty!
One of my very, very favorite chairs, but for the life of me, can never get clients to bite!
LUV THE BRNO CHAIR! I HAD A FRIEND DRIVING DOWN A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET ON HER WAY HOME AND SAW SOMEONE PUTTING CHAIRS OUT TO THE CURB-SHE TURNED THE CAR AROUND ASKED THE WOMAN IF SHE WAS TOSSING THEM SHE SAID YES AND LOADED THEM UP...6 TOTAL CHROME FLAT ARM BRO CHAIRS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION! UUGGHH THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO ME! 8-(
patrick, probably because those chairs remind people like me of accountants' offices or doctor's offices. lol
You must go to a much better accountant or dentist than do I.
Who cares is the brass is a knock off. It's gorgeous.
It is a bit sterile for me, even in... floral....
Well indeed the brass chairs are real and made for a Texas power company (by Knoll ) in 1970-They are a lot of work to keep polished ! xojj
I love the contextualizing, historical photos. Really educational.
Ugh, that meant to go on a different post.
