Bugaboo unveiled their newest stroller to the media today. Our first reaction is that the company must be extremely confident in their product to name it Donkey which doesn't have quite the same ring as Cameleon, Frog or Bee. The Donkey's target consumers are parents of twins, two young children, or who desire more storage space. Read on for more details&hellip
The Donkey uses telescoping technology to expand from a mono stroller to a duo stroller or to add a storage sidecar for groceries and other cargo. In the mono position the Donkey's width is the same as the Cameleon (23"). As a duo stroller, it is 29" which the company says makes it the narrowest luxury side-by-side stroller. We're not sure what Bugaboo considers a "luxury" duo stroller but we checked the widths of a few other side-by-side double strollers and they were all pretty close to 29" (the Maclaren Twin Techno is 29.5" and the Bumbleride Indie Twin is also 29", for example).
No word yet on price but we expect it to be high. The Donkey will be available in the U.S. in Spring 2011.
What do you think from this first glimpse? We'd be particularly interested in hearing from parents of twins or two young children.

White Enamel Flatwa...
It looks pretty nifty, but it's being billed elsewhere as the first convertible mono to duo pushchair, and that's not true - there's the icandy peach, which with the blossom attachment goes to two - also their apple turns into a pear. I've seen the peach in action and it's amazing - folds down with one hand into the tiniest frame ever.

(i know I sound like I work for them but i really am just totally impressed)
ps. that said, of COURSE the bugaboo is wonderful (silly name or not) - it looks totally nifty and I love the luggage option - looks like you could use it instead of a trolley or basket in the supermarket too.
But I expect the price tag will be about the size of a mortgage.
I wouldn't get it because I'm sure it's impossible to fold in the trunk of a car, especially when wrangling two toddlers. I love my citymini double! If all I needed it for was to stroll around though, I'm sure I would love it.
I would have called it the Dragonfly I think, but I also like Iguana, Eagle, Hawk, and Falcon. Donkeys really aren't very glamorous, are they? Not to mention it's politically charged. ;-)
...im assuming they called it the donkey because it can haul a load. i mean, even mule sounds better than donkey, haha.
I've loved my Bugaboo except for one major thing: the break. It's horrible. The break on the cheap umbrella stroller I got for emergencies is better than the one on my Cameleon. I hope the donkey can stop and is just as sure footed as a donkey. But I still love the design and the smooth wheels. LOVE the wheels...as did my kid!
I have the 2010 uppababy vista with rumble seat and love it. I plan to get the piggyback board for the 3rd child. It has a huge basket underneath and I'm sure is less expensive than the donkey
I love the idea of the add on basket. We would use it ALL THE TIME.
Of course now that my twins are too old for strollers, Bugaboo finally decides to get with the twin program! There were so FEW options for twin strollers. It looks nice- I definitely would have purchased it. I have to say, though. I'm not a fan for the four wheel design. Three wheelers are so much more maneuverable. I'd also be interested to see the foldability/disassembly process. That is important to parents of twins; storage.
... and that donkey name? Thanks, Bugaboo for sticking that terrible moniker to de-cool us twin moms. So we have two kids! Why can't we have a sleek name like chameleon?
This is the best looking double stroller I've seen, and does it really matter what your stroller is called? probably not.
i want it now. i'm with bethanyp, it's not like people are going to come up to you and say, "oh i love your donkey!". i kinda like the name though. also, i like the maneuverability of 3 wheels as well, but it looks like in order to have the design of this (expandable frame) they had to go with 4 wheels. oh and i too would like to see it's folding capabilities.
I sold my Cameleon to buy a Baby Jogger City Select and despite having my hubby's blessing to do so I'm not convinced I will sell the BJCS for this, it looks wide and I really dislike the basket in 'mono' mode.
The telescopic widening is ingenious though and I expect great things for the next generation of it.
This looks too wide in the tandem mode. I have a Baby Jogger City Select which is also a convertable stroller(single to double). When I wore out my last stroller we purchased the BJCS one anticipating a second baby soon. I love it! I would much prefer a tandem to a side-by-side. How is a mama supposed to go shopping? I have a hard enough squeezing a single stroller through the clothing racks as it is.
Ugh. More double-wide strollers? Sheesh, this just encourages more parents to use them as bulldozers as they forge down sidewalks. Let's get more tandem style strollers out there for those in need of a vehicle for two tots.
Wow! Thats an amazing double stroller!

As it is the Bugaboo is so wide and I feel as if people hate me when I use it in supermarkets and other stores with narrow aisles. Why would Bugaboo which tends to have a largely urban consumer base make a side by side as opposed to tandem? That was totally a DUMB idea. I would have purchased the tandem but as it is I purchased the I-Candy and love it. Side by sides are just huge space hogs in Manhattan and I totally get annoyed with dealing them.
@ mammamayi the breaks on the 2010 cameleon and newer are fabulous. I was amazed at how well it worked.
I love my bugaboo but I think I would rather have an inline stroller for two. The extra width doesn't seem feasible for navigating crazy sidewalks.
