A wall covered almost from head to toe in framed single and paired butterflies would make even the most boring of dinner parties interesting. With over 600 specimens of butterflies hanging on the wall The Butterfly Room certainly lives up to it's name. For more info visit the Singapore House website here.

I think it is beautiful! And original.
It really is as cool in real life. It's the sister restaurant to British India http://www.britishindia.net.au/ which has an equally beautiful fit out.
Thanks for this! I work in a herbarium, and this will stay in the back of my mind in case I get a chance to do something similar with plants.
Taxidermy... done to death... hee, hee, hee
): ): ):
butterflies need help. not this.
hope it's an old collection, when people didn't know beter.
Walls covered with the carcasses of perhaps the most innocent & beautiful creatures on earth? Okay, a few species' larvae do some kind of damage. Overall, though, really? Killed and mounted for your viewing pleasure? This is just sick.
Lovely though they may be, they're still just dead bugs. Blech!
digger61 and Rapunzel- I doubt that these are from the old times of entomology when specimens were killed for preservation. Rarely are butterflies killed anymore for this purpose. They typically come from butterfly farms who take the numerous good specimens that die naturally every day and preserve them. They don't live very long.. and now they get to "live" forever.
Tankasaurus is right. These are like a shell collection really. It becomes a means to make some money after the insects have died.
I don't think Taxidermy will ever be over! If nothing else, it'll come back around eventually, and then those of us who love it will be in vogue once again :)
A friend had a collection of insects in Plexiglas boxes, including a huge Walking Stick on his toilet tank. I made a comment about not knowing he was into bugs. He explained he wasn't, but had seen the collection at a yard sale and thought they looked cool so bought it for decoration. I am not into killing anything for display purposes and would not own it myself, but it was interesting and quite a conversation starter at parties.
This is lovely as long as the butterflies aren't caught in the wild, where many are endangered. That would be very sad and unnecessary. (For those who want to emulate the look, please find responsible sources.)
I love butterflies, and this makes me very sad. I would not be able to go here.
@Tankasaurus: Wow, thank you! That's great news. I feel better now -- seriously.
Yes, it's original. No, I don't like looking at dead animals on display.
The whole place looks dingy and creepy, anyway.
Visually cool, but I'd be grossed out eating next to them...
