There is so much lavish, impeccable inspiration out there for setting the Thanksgiving table. But my Thanksgiving, as I've known it for years, is generally a pretty casual affair. There are so many of us present, our plates are filled buffet-style and we are seated at a few different tables throughout my uncle's old farmhouse.
While I'd love to set a perfect table, Thanksgiving for me is just not the holiday for it. It feels much more familiar to think of the large spread in the kitchen adjacent to the many tables in the dining and living rooms or getting rambunctious over football or a card game. Is your Thanksgiving a casual holiday, or much more formal? Please tell below!

Mine too. The family is just too big. So you just find a spot — sometimes a table, sometimes on a couch — and dig in. I like it. It's lively and casual, and conversations flow really easily.
We have found a good mix - buffet style serving, but two huge tables so everyone can sit together. Tables have small centerpieces and decoration, but we all come comfortably dressed and don't take things too seriously! :)
I'm with who posted this - Thanksgiving has always been people spread out to different tables. Last year was the first Thanksgiving where everyone was at the same table - but it was just me, the fiance, and my parents.
With his family, everyone is spread out in his grandma's house between the kitchen table, the dining room, and several card tables placed in the living room and den.
I am interested in how many people actually dress up for Thanksgiving - as in the "Sunday best". We stick to casual as long as your clothes aren't dirty or stained - lol - jeans and a turtleneck have been my usual outfit for this day.
Mine's almost exactly the same. 50+ people at my parents' house, buffet in the kitchen, large tables set up in the dining room, living room, family room, foyer, etc. Lots of food and board games and laughing and fun. Casual and awesome.
Thanksgiving is usually just my immediate family. After cooking all day I often attend dinner in my pajamas, can't get more casual than that!
Casual is the only way to go for me. We're having another couple and their dog over (making us 4 people, 3 dogs) and we'll be playing ping pong all day while the turkey's cooking. My turkey will be in one of those oven bags----turns out so juicy every time.
Ours is usually more formal--but this looks sooo much nicer, more comforting and easy.
I am absolutely LOVING the orange and Blue combo!
See how we incorporated orange into our table arrangement soon at our blog: http://www.hautblog.wordpress.com
Casual is the way to go for Thanksgiving. Buffet dinner, people spread out all over the place, football on the tv. My parents have been hosting Thanksgiving for the past 30 years and its always casual with about 20 relatives. I wouldn't know it any other way.
Mostly casual. Our NORMAL level of casual is eating out or from our laps, so the fact that for holidays we do sit at the table and have more variety of food than usual ups it a little bit, but we don't do fine china or wine or dressy clothes, either.
thanksgiving dinner is usually followed by a food coma. i have to be comfortable for a food coma.
