Though mention of a canopy bed usually calls to mind a classic princess room, the modern version can be as at home in a streamlined urban loft as in a young girl's bedroom. If you have always had a hankering for the romance of a classic canopy bed without the frilly overtones, this collection of updated canopy beds might just help you fulfill your bedroom dreams.
This Farmhouse Canopy Bed from Pottery Barn is the perfect blend of an old school canopy with modern streamlined design. This wooden four poster looks great all on its own or with the sheer canopy and drapes to soften the look.
The Italian Campaign Canopy Bed from Anthropologie is a more traditional offering in terms of shape (inspired as it was by the Victorians), but the simple lines of this wrought iron bed mean it could still work in a modern interior.
The Ellipse Metal Canopy Bed from West Elm marries the classic lines of a canopy bed with a modern metal lattice pattern that adds drama to any room.
The Edland Four Poster Bed from IKEA is a simple white painted wood canopy bed which manages to look ethereal and minimalist despite its height.
The Excel Canopy Bed from Overstock is another industrial chic option with its powder-coated steel construction and open modular design.

I have a black maple canopy bed made in Bali I purchased from Inspiration's Design Center in Honolulu that I just adore. Very modern, clean lines. It's the second most expensive thing that I own but well worth it.
No mention of the R&B Architecture and Portica beds?

The Crate & Barrel Pavillion Bed?

There's so many things you can do with that simple square frame. I have one and we tied long velvet & silk ribbon trimmed curtain panels on it from a Moroccan store (multi colors) so you can sweep aside the panels or close them completely up for a room within a room feel. I tied a white semi sheer crumbcatcher over the bed so it has a "ceiling". This type of bed with the fabric applied to it makes for better feng shui in a room with very high ceilings. It's a lot cozier, too.
PB Teen has a bed that is similiar to the anthro campaign canopy bed, but cheaper.
I love the look of the Crate & Barrel and Room & Board beds, but I've got an IKEA budget (and that one is *not* sturdy and only comes in white*). What else is there? I've looked and looked with little success.
I love love love the bed in pic #5.
lol, the mysterious edland bed that looks like none of the other edland products. More and more, I think I find naked canopy beds kind of pretentious in their divorce from function (even if that "function"=hold up drapey things).
Bassett has a Canopy close to Pottery Barns in their Redin Park collection, and at a lower price.. no full size available though..

I recently purchased the Architecture Bed from Room and Board, which is similar to the Pottery Barn bed in the first photo. I'd like to put drapes on it to help block out the light -- what should I use? I don't sew, so it would have to be something I could just lay over the frame.
I have the IKEA Edland poster bed. Hard to believe, but it works well in my French-style bedroom.

Tab top curtains that fasten w/ buttons would be perfect for what you're looking for...
Ha ha...just saw this pic on CatalogLiving.net, the Feb 16 entry. Catch up on this sight if you haven't visited recently. SO funny!
I have the Edland bed and it actually is pretty sturdy. So long as you're not swinging from the posts.
We have the Portica Canopy bed from Room and Board and it is dreamy. When we moved back to my parent's house so we could afford law school for my hubby it was our big splurge... perhaps not the most fiscally rsponsible choice, but it sure is keeping me sane!
@mauishopgirl, just thinking about Inspiration's Design Center makes my heart ache! I remember always passing by it on TheBus and desperately wishing I wasn't so broke!
