House Beautiful's annual Color Issue is on the newsstands right now, and at the heart of it is the report featuring the results of an in-depth survey which is super informative and intriguing for all of us who love interior design. The data is intensive, but it's presented in bright, smartly designed infographics - jump below for a few more samples...

The survey was conducted in March and the over 4000 respondents included readers, pro designers and design bloggers. As I looked over the full report, one big surprise result jumped out at me - according to the data, most readers think pink is "over" (never!). Honestly, I beg to differ, but that is what makes color such a fun thing to follow; it's something that people are passionate about which means everyone (including me) has an opinion!

Nomade Express Slee...
I'm definitely in the minority. My bedroom is yellow...Top Banana by Valspar. Check it out, it's bright but yellow is my favorite color and I love it. Living in New England though I'm not totally of out the majority rules, I have a white living room, white den, white dining room and yesterday painted the dark beige walls in the kitchen the same bright white as the rest of the rooms:)
I'm so not over orange and never will be.
I wonder that blue is a fave in bedrooms. I often feel cold in blue rooms and fell better in muted colours or bare white when it comes to sleeping
We painted our living room a warm, chocolatey brown on the window walls & soft cream on the other two walls... So so gorgeous! Think brownies & vanilla ice cream.
All our rooms are painted 2-4 colors, with the exception of my textile studio... I cannot imagine a house full of rooms just one color! And, yeah, orange is still stunning.
So much for the Pantone colour forecast.
This is a survey, not a color forecast. I don't think this information is particularly useful since there are a million variations of each color. "Blue" could be indigo, navy, turquoise, slate, or baby boy. "Yellow" could be butter, lemon or tuscan sun. "Green" could be khaki, teal, kelly, forest or sage.
Yellow and orange are my favourites - I know it's technically two, but if I say 'yellowy-orange', I get accused of cheating anyway ;) Bright, bold, warm ones. Love those warm colours! The warmer purples (more red than blue) come in third, with red, intense pinks (more cerise, less pastel), and warmish blues coming in after that.
I've never been a fan of cool colours, especially green, and blue I only really like as an accent. White rooms tend to bore me unless they're FILLED with colour in the accents and accessories.
The little image of the house with the colors is nearly identical to our house. Our living room is a light green, with a bold green in the dining room. Our kitchen is a buttery yellow and upstairs, our bedroom is a birds egg blue. Funny!
So funny! I grew up in New England, and easily 90% of the living rooms I've ever been in were white or just off-white (cream, ivory, eggshell, etc. -- but mostly white). I thought that was universal -- I had no idea that gray or beige would win out in other areas.
What I love about color trends is how it introduces or re-introduces various colors into our lives. I don't even have to have it on my walls to enjoy it in the world, in pictures and places I go, etc. Earlier in my life I hated orange. Now I love, love, love it and doubt it will ever be 'out' with me, even if some other color gets center stage color of the year status. Color is a language, a vibrational food, and a joy for me. I know color prefs are personal and yet the older I get, the more colors I like and appreciate: I'm a color slut! I even like gray and beige more now because of how great they make vibrant colors look!
