We don't have a yard, so we don't have a tree and thus no treehouse, but a mama can dream for her kids. While searching for inspiration, I came upon THE coolest treehouse ever.

Laurel's husband built this incredible two-story treehouse for their kids in their backyard. It comes complete with windows and doors, as well as a patio and balcony. It even has electric lights! Oh, and look closely to see the tree that grows in the center of the house. The only thing more beautiful than the treehouse are the photos Laurel, a professional photographer, took of the construction process. Run over to her site Eilas blog to check it out.

WOW. That is incredible! I love it when people design things for children that are still stylish and beautiful instead of tacky.
This is one of the MOST INCREDIBLE THINGS I'VE EVER SEEN!
I could pretty much live there...its lovely!
Amazing!
The word you want is "playhouse."
Those nighttime photos are pure magic!
Swoon!
WOW! Phenomenal!
LOL a friend told me about my tree house being blogged about on this site so I had to check it out. I really appreciate the nice things you all have said. If you live close by Franklin Tn and want to build one let me be a blessing and help out. I'll be adding a long slide soon. Thanks again!! ~ BJON
@BJON: Oh boy...I don't think you realize how many readers Apartment Therapy has. Having made such a generous offer, though, I suspect you'll soon find out!!!! (If we lived nearby, we'd definitely take you up on it!) Lovely job and family!
It's gorgeous, but it looks like the foundation is just buried, untreated lumber. There doesn't appear to be any solid footings to speak of, which means that the supporting lumber will rot below ground and the treehouse will be ruined. Why not put in a little concrete footing? What a waste of all that hard work :( And what a waste of an exquisite little structure...
The posts are concreted into the ground and buried and they are treated lumber. My husband knows what he's doing.
^ I love this comment. :) Don't mess with a lovely woman's hardworking man LorienQ!
What kind of permits did this require? At two stories tall with electricity, that would at least need a building permit around here, even if it's just an accessory structure. I'd be interested in hearing what needed to happen to build this play house. It's lovely!
I totally agree SKEEMER118, I was so glad to see ELIAS stick up for her husband and that awesome treehouse. Lately there have been alot of snarky comments on here, they always anger me, Apartment Therapy didn't have as many rude commenters when I started following a few years back, or maybe I didn't notice. It seems almost every post has at least one "Debbie Downer" comment. Usually people just ignore them but I was glad to see ELIAS respond :)
WOW! I visited Eilas' blog and this is truly a work of art! Her photography is stunning as well! How I wish you were my neighbors!
AWESOME. I want one! :-)
I would never snark on a project! This is gorgeous! I've been over the photos several times, and still don't see photo evidence of the footings. I'd just hate for someone to recreate it who doesn't realize or see footings, and waste that work when the wood rots out. Why? Because it's AWESOME! And their grandkids should play in it, too :) Not everyone who has a less-than-100%-in-favour comment of every single thing in a post is being snarky or negative.
