Light-Filled Family Home. When Sam and Leslie Davol (he's the cellist for the Magnetic Fields) made a killing selling their Greenwich Street loft in New York, they decided they'd be Quitting Their Day Jobs and Scaling Up. They bought two adjacent top-floor apartments in Boston and hired Höweler & Yoon Architecture to help re-imagine the space...
They ended up with a light-filled family apartment that has room for a family of four and two office spaces for the adults...
In addition to the amazing courtyard space (notice how the metallic walls reflect even more light!), the added skylights above the shower was a great way to bring in natural light. WOW!!!... their music is amazing AND they have great taste in design. I truly heart the Magnetic Fields. (Papa Was a Rodeo - favorite song ever!)
I believe everyone that reads this blog would have an exceptional pad if money was of no object. It's the solutions to small exceptional spaces that interest me. This is a nice article, but wealthy paladianesq spreads are a dime a dozen.

I know what you are saying. It's most amazing to see those who decorate so excellently on a small budget.
However, I really appreciate what they've done with simple things here. I looked at the child's room and thought. Hey I could do (afford) that!
IMO, the apartment is very cold and lifeless. There isn't a soft spot anywhere. No rugs, no soft furniture. Except for a plant and a cat, this place is very harsh and uninviting.
The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
I love their space and their story.
Sam, The place turned out great! I Loved watching the transformation from day to day. I had no idea how it was all going to turn out when first I started working there. I especially liked working for you and your family as I'm sure everyone did. We had a great crew from the Architect down to? well, You! This is the first job I have ever been on that the homeowner piched in!
