Whether you are so sick of deer heads/antlers (faux or not) or still love the look for home, we think artist Jennifer Khoshbin's Handmade Wilderness series is worth a look. Khoshbin creates the deer heads herself - paper mache and decoupage on resin cast heads (she's not just decorating an old thrift store find). She then covers the "trophies" in wallpaper which has been inspired either by home life, nature, or both:

oh god its like a craft project gone horribly wrong....or like some wrapped the gift just a little too well...ugh
I love them!
I saw these on Etsy a few months ago, and ended up finding the same "bare" resin deer head used for about $25 at many online retailers. There's something to be said for applying the paper so symmetrically, but $350 is a bit steep for something that is a fairly easy DIY.
ChristopherB, can you suggest some online retailers that carry such "bare" resin deer head? I'm having no luck searching on my own.
Here is the site I purchased mine from:

I came quite quickly, though I wasn't exactly pleased by the liberal use of styrofoam peanuts :P
Hey, WALLPRINT - your completely undisguised AD is not welcome here.
Christopher8, you might want to be more discreet..."I" rather than "it" rattled my morning coffee.
As for the project---it's an innovative take on a cliche.
I also have the same resin deer head. I painted mine white with gesso:

Not a fan of these decorations, it looks like a visit to the vet is critical. Perhaps it's just the paper used, personally I'd rather see anything deer shaped out in the fields and forests. JMHO
ChristopherB, many thanks!
I have been pining for one of these as I know that I would not be so successful in applying paper myself...I have been lusting for months, but can't bring myself to spend $350 just yet
Ooh snap! Heather Leaf just called you out "WALLPRINT"
I kind of like these but I dont think it would go with my decor or budget. Oh well.
Oh and, Mr. WallPrint?
"Thinking about getting some text/prose art from them." YOUR NAME IS WALLPRINT!! Not fooling anyone.
And I see that you have posted on nearly every single thread today with this same schtick. Lame.
For a little irony, maybe the deer head could be covered with a "keep calm..." message.
I AM SOOOO O O O O SICK OF ANIMAL HEADS, THE EIFFEL TOWER, AND SCRABBLE LETTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's move on, people.

Hi again !
After my first deer head (see the last comment back in october), I've made a 3D one last week. Check it out : http://nocesdecoton.canalblog.com/archives/2010/02/10/16860701.html. I'm gonna use it in a nursery.
What do you think ?
Cheers from France
