Late last year, Pantone pronounced that the color of the year for 2012 is a bright reddish orange called Tangerine Tango. In our post announcing the news, the comment thread included more cheers than jeers, so it looks like orange remains in place as an eminently acceptable dose of happy color to add to your interiors. We've gathered together some inspiration pics, paint color swatches and more - think of it as a 2012 color kickoff starter kit...

Shaw's Original Fir...
I've had my fill of orange.....looks like last year
cute table. but what a color commitment to something that could be 'out' in a year.
I always like orange, though this one seems a little saturated and too reddish for my tastes, but it's still pretty (just not for my house). This may sound awful but I usually use the color of the year as my clue what NOT to buy, hehe.
I for one love the color! Supposedly orange has been in it's trend demise for the last 8 years - it doesn't look that way to me... Besides, who cares where it is trend wise - as long as you love go for it!
Yeah, orange is so overdone now, maybe because it fits with the mid-century thing, which I know everyone loves, but I am tired of looking at it.
Great images! I agree with furniture4evr-who cares.
I have that martini side table in orange next to my son's bunkbed and he loves it! We are Auburn, Bears, & Cubs fans so orange is good at our house all the time!
does anyone know where to get the airplane print?!
YVRguy - the artist for the aircraft artwork is listed in the house tour as Jeffrey Milstein

I love the notion that colors can be out or "look like last year". That people could walk into my house and whisper to each other "Will you LOOK at these walls? SO 2011. My eyes! My eyes!"
Colors are colors, if I like it I like it. Sometimes I regret the color I paint, but oh well, I'll still take all the help I can get, thank you.
Orange is my least favorite color. It's okay as an accent, but I can't imagine being smacked by it first thing with my morning coffee. It's also the color that jails and prisons now don't use in their prisoner's uniforms because it is too stimulating and encourages aggression. I'll be glad when it faaaaaades away.
This color will never find a place in my home or my closet. I have an aversion to things orange!
That is a sign!!!
Just this morning we were talking about painting one of our kitchen walls in orange- love this color!
what a beautiful post!
i will never get sick of orange! it's a fabulous and energetic hue.
I loved the color last year. This one, YUCK!
That orange kitchen actually hurts my eyes.
How odd... cb2 is carrying their parlour chair in both tangerine and atomic orange. (Since one can't trust photos to be consistent,) I wonder if anyone's seen them both in person yet, since I'd imagine they would be pretty similar?
Warm color, warm heart.
I love orange, but these kitchens are blah. I think it's because the orange needs something to contrast with, otherwise the effect is monotonous.
Here is my current favorite example of orange- a more reddish hue from Wayne's "Warm Retro" Room from the Color Cure- it's stunning against the mint:

Hermes orange for me, please.
Maybe this helps with the orange thing: I like orange -- after all, it's an innocent color, just doing its thing. But I don't look good wearing orange (pink is good, salmon is okay), so I would not use orange in my home because it would influence my look, just as much as an orange sweater would. In someone else's home, it would be smashing....just keep me off the orange sofa or in the chair next to the orange wall! EllaR
I think the problem with orange is what you pair it with. Next to straight white it screams "creamsicle," like red with straight white says "Santa." I'd put it with a warm, maybe a little towards green.
A warm GRAY, that is....
It's one of my favorite colors, and always an attention-getter. Idea: a vibrantly printed tea towel is an easy way to add that hit of orange to brighten up a kitchen :) http://studiopatro.blogspot.com/2012/01/color-of-year.html
uh yeah.. no. not sure how they decided.. but to me its a throw back to the 1970s. no thanks.
I'm painting my double front doors orange...
Is it too much that I did a similar color with a turquoise-like color two years ago? Too much for some, but in my house with little direct sunlight it brightened things up and I love it!!
Consumerism at its best. Use the colors you like and add what you feel is better for you, whether it is orange or red or blue, etc.
In fashion or not, orange is a favourite of mine!
Looks great!

To people coming to apartment therapy and sniveling about whatever item is on display and how happy they'll be when said displayed item's trend will end. Please, go jump in a lake.
gorgeous, totally up my alley, not one negative comment, this is a very cheery well thought out design, bravo...........Ps I love the Corten steel fireplace set up
I like orange. Some of my favorite outfits combine orange and turquoise. But I think it works best in warm places like Florida, with lots of citrus colors. It doesn't seem too New England.
