Name: Michael Mann
Location: Los Angeles, CA
As an advertising agency strategist at Ignited in Los Angeles, Michael’s desk is strategically arranged for efficiency and concentration in a creative space with energy abound. To create an environment best supporting his workflow, he keeps an orderly desk with only the essentials at arm's reach, utilizing elevated shelves and cork board above the workspace to keep inspiring quotes within view, all the while abiding by the philosophy of "less is more"...
What do you like best about your workspace?
My computer monitor, because of its size. I’m an extremely visual person and do my best work when I feel like I’m in a studio. Having an oversized computer screen feels like a canvas and helps keep me focused even when working on the more monotonous tasks.
Any tips or advice about keeping your desk area and/or computer desktop uncluttered and a productive place to work?
Less is definitely more. Keep your iPhone out of sight and surround yourself with random things for inspiring ideas, like a dictionary of clichés or quotes such as, “Question everything, always...and forever.” I also spend an extra five minutes at the end of each day to organize loose papers, notes, etc.
Ignite's bicoastal studio teams collaborate between LA and NYC, with balance ball seating and bicycles available to all employees to keep employees energized and motivated.
If given the opportunity, what would you like to upgrade, replace, or improve about where you work? Hardware, software, furnishings, lighting?
Definitely lighting. Lighting makes a huge difference. I also have been wanting to install a whiteboard-like surface so I can quickly jot down ideas. The creative process is messy and disorganized, so parts of a working space should be reflective of that.
