The Diaper Bag That Carries More Than Diapers

A few weeks ago while we were in Chicago, we picked up this fabulous orange Duo Deluxe Diaper Bag from Skip*Hop. Now we could tell you all the great ways it would hold bottles and diapers (which it would do amazingly well), but that's not what we put it to use for. Who carries a diaper bag when they don't have to? Someone who wants to carry the most awesome multifunctional bag ever! Click through to hear why we are truly, madly and deeply infatuated...

Not having a child that requires us to carry a diaper bag, it might seem crazy to carry one. But there are just some things that defy logic and reason and this Duo Bag from Skip Hop is one of those things.

On a daily basis we tote around our Digital SLR camera with us, a scarf for the weather, keys, pocketbook, GPS device, reusable shopping bags, notebook and writing utensils and all the other assorted things you find in a woman's purse (kleenex, Tylenol, lotion, cell phone). Throughout our day we have photoshoots and meetings, trips to the dog park and so forth. We aren't home all that often and when we are it always seems like we are headed back out in the near future, so this bag has become our home away from home (in the good way, not in the lady who stuffs her car so full of junk you can only see out 1 of the 4 side windows..way.)

The biggest selling point about this bag is it's ability to hold just about anything while still allowing you to get things back out of it without a huge mess. We've all been there... digging through our purse or bag at the grocery store to try to find what crevice we stuffed our wallet or keys into? Where your phone is ringing and you know it's in there somewhere... but it's just not surfacing despite your rummaging? It's ok... we are right there with you, or rather we were until our Duo bag.

The two upper outter pockets allow us to keep our keys and wallet handy without them drowning in the dregs at the bottom of things. Both of these pockets zip, so security is at it's best. The pockets along the side hold our cell phone and water bottle while the pockets up front usually have directions or notes, coupons or mail to be sent off in them. There is one large pocket on the bag that is the full depth of the bag and is ideal for holding a magazine without getting crumpled or looking like you're toting one around.

For those with kids, there are perfect little stroller loops (although we have been known to put them on our bike) , a padded shoulder strap (where the padding holds still, allowing you to rotate the bag forwards and back for easy access without having to take your bag off your shoulder), and a handle.

Inside the bag there are two deep pockets that are of course intended to hold diapers, but are deep enough for other items without them falling out when other things are added to or subtracted from the bag. There's a magnetic clasp at the top of the bag between the zippered pockets allowing the bag to stay closed without the hassle of flipping open a messenger bag to get at things. It creates a seamless transaction between you and the bag, a slide of the hand in and it closes on the way out. It hugs your body so pick pocketing isn't really an issue, and it's deep enough that nothing really tags along upon exit (we can't be the only ones who have gone in for a tissue and come out with a receipt or random glove as well).

It's made from tough poly-canvas and since we are tough on purses and bags, it should last for years. From their website you can order an array of colors (we happen to like traffic cone orange) and there is further explanation of how it hooks to a stroller and what the inside pockets look like! It also comes with a changing pad that folds up and slides inside nicely (although we use it for padding for our camera!).

This is one of those purchases that we love so much because it does exactly what we need it to, 100% of the time. There hasn't been anything that after having owned it for two weeks we've said, "Oh, well this is great buy I wish it did.... I wish it had... next time I'll get one that..... " None of that. Plus, it's great to know that when the time comes, it will transition back to being a diaper bag when the time comes.
