Jaime over at Prudent Baby sent us her most recent before and after project for her bedroom: a full DIY king size upholstered headboard. She not only takes us step by step, starting with particle and plywood boards, and then joining them altogether with foam sheets, batting and finally the fabric of her choice. We admire her handiwork, but even more so, because she's been kind enough to offer full DIY templates to follow in her footsteps.
One of my new year's resolutions is to get our bedroom decorated. I will take you all on the journey with me, revealing the change bit by bit. We just bought a new king size bed so step one is a new headboard.I was thinking your readers might like these full DIYs with templates that I created for making your own cornices, and making a king size headboard. I thought it couldn’t hurt to send them to you!
Thanks Jaime. Be sure to check out Jaime's fully illustrated step-by-step directions over at Prudent Baby, a blog for "DIYs for small fries".

Originally a Design*Sponge project of course. ;)
I'm still waiting for Otomi fabric to be more inexpensive or for me to have more money.
Where is the fabric from?
Design Sponge...
The pattern of the fabric looks just like a piece we got in Mexico, same color, but much larger. Gorgeous.
hi! yes i totally got the idea for that Otomi fabric from Design Sponge (and linked and credited that in the DIY) but FYI if you search ebay you can find deals on otomi fabric! i got that whole thing for $80!
Great project - I'd like to do something like that myself...
...but sadly the shape of the headboard isn't being shown to it's best advantage because the over-scaled pattern obscures the shape of the panel - and the fabric placement needed to be lower: The top two birds in the arch unfortunately have their heads cut off.
i know bepsf, it was such a bummer to have those birds heads cut off, i tried it a million ways, but there was no other way to do it short of creating piping and doing side panels in a diff. fabric which made the whole thing more trouble the it was worth (for me). i was pretty bummed on that. but i purposefully like the overscale pattern on this shape.
Hamro, you made a great project! i love it!!!
Fantastic job! I don't think the over-scaled pattern obscured the shape. Once it's on a wall (without shadows or a sofa in the background), it will really show!
