The photos I love most are from his Brand New Tattoo series, in which he lovingly documented shards of porcelain with a jeweler's camera, and combined three images with one piece of text. Three of the limited edition sets are available through Little Paper Planes. I covet Set A, but am overwhelmed by the amount of framing and matting it would require. But oh, it's so dreamy!
The third photo above is Drift 2 from his series Just Before The Thaw. I've always loved those last, lost bits of snow, like tiny icebergs that wandered too far from home. The fourth and fifth photos are from 31 Winter Walks, "a series made during a month in the snowy woods of New Hampshire. Every day I would walk and collect sticks and cast-offs from an eventual destination. At the end of the day the collection was bundled and embellished with various colors of thread used to code the occurrences and weather of the day." Though I want to own Brand New Tattoo, 31 Winter Walks makes me want to undertake a similar project of my own. And if Matthew Jensen ever needs a break from photography, I think he could very easily go into floral design.
