We have a one-sided one in one bathroom. I hate replacing toilet paper when you have to take the thing apart. It's obviously a simple task, but I get resentful of it.

I have a one-sided one in my new apartment and it's not really the greatest. I mean, it's nice and brand new and everything... but the stupid Charmin Mega Rolls (that seem to be the only size Target ever has in stock, unless I want to by a 24 pack, which I DON'T) are too big and thus cause the roll to be pushed away from the spindle instead of hanging on it so it works its way off the holder when you pull it.
Luckily, it's also too big to just go flying off the holder. :)

I have one. I mounted it vertically so as to stop all arguments about which way is the best way for a roll to lay.

I want a one sided one but the one I have now is mounted to the wall in such a way that I have no idea how to take it off (or even how it's attached in the first place, it was there when I moved in).

I hate changing the roll so I don't often bother and just plop the new one on top of the holder and take it off and hold it in my hand when I need to roll of some paper.

What toilet paper holder is pictured above? It is not Ikea's Grundtal(which I do own, and have never had the roll fly off and roll away from me).

I love having 1-sided holder. But, when my puppy was younger, he used to steal the whole roll off the holder and hide it! Luckily, he grew out of that and we are always well stocked.

The better ones come with a bigger lip that prevents the TP from falling off. Looks like the one pictures doesn't have that feature.

How funny, I walked into an Ikea showroom Saturday and saw two of the Ikea Gruntal one-sided toilet paper holders being used as hold-backs for a princess-style bed canopy! I can also see someone repurposing one for draperies--if you really wanted that simple, chrome aesthetic.

Been looking for one to mount vertically - I have been looking at what they are calling spare roll holders that have a flat round base so when you turn it vertical the roll has something to sit on. My favorite is from ginger (http://www.decor66.com/prodView.asp?idProduct=28975&idf=132216&zmam=71551445&zmas=6&zmac=41&zmap=2807-26) but still trying to reconcile spending $100 on something to hold toilet paper... Meanwhile we have NO holder and our toilet paper sits on the back of the tank!

I wonder why toilet paper holders are so badly designed by and large. Ours is a two sided one, but it has two spring short-loaded tabs on each end. You just pull the roll up between them and the go up and then snap into place when the holes are centered. It's secure and very easy.

one sided is the way to go...although my teen never changes the toilet paper regardless of the style, i have had two for 5 years and am still glad I have them!

$100 spread over a long time for something that is used every day...doesn't seem so much when you break it down.

I have the exact same one as the ine in the picture! Works great and the roll does not fly off! I also have the matching towel holders - they are quite cheap but I love the simple design.

Tse Moana : you may have a TP holder with hidden hardware. Look on the bottom side of the two 'arms' that hold the paper spindle. If there is a hole in each of them, they likely have a 'set screw' which can be loosened with the appropriately sized allen wrench. Once loose, you can remove the 'arms' which should reveal any screws and hardware attached to the wall. Good Luck!

We have the Gundtal too (my gaw, so cheap). The secret is you have to mount it so the slide-it-on end is *away* from you. So when you pull off the paper, you are pulling the roll toward the part that is attached to the wall, not off the holder and onto the floor.

I installed these in my bathrooms a few months ago. So much more convenient to use. I've never had a problem with the roll falling off though, try being less aggressive with the t.p.

We have one in our ensuite in Australia - so easy and looks neat! Hate our other one, have to pull it apart and it falls off alot.

I have one-sided roll holders and like them except for one thing: my puppy finds it really easy to get the roll off and run away with it.

What I'd really like is a TP holder that can take 2 rolls; gotta have a back up! How about a paper towel sized one for the bathroom?

I hate these things! Unless the holder is directly across from you so you can pull straight, the roll flies off. Are modern, two arm spring loaded ones really that difficult/more time consuming to use? or look all that different? seriously? geez! I just change the roll when the old one is done or while I'm using mouthwash!

the way the one I've been using is mounted is so the the arm is closer to you so when you pull, you don't pull the roll off. Mounting it vertically seems like a great alternate solution.

And the paper towel holder idea is genius. If anyone has tried it, let us know!

I have a one-sided curvy edition that works perfectly. It was already in the apartment upon arrival, out far enough for even the thickest of Ultra Thick Charmin rolls. And the curved bar makes the fly-off issue a non-issue.

i have the ikea grundtal. i love it. luuuuuuuuuv it.

Thanks laure! I also use mine like DWF, with the open end away from me, and it has never slid away from me.

swanroad, have you seen the Grundtal toilet roll stand? It holds 3-4 rolls vertically.
