Can you believe it? We only have *one* week left in this Cure. I'm curious what people feel is their biggest accomplishment over the past seven weeks, what kind of end-of-the-program celebrations are on the horizon, etc. And, of course, I don't think I'm alone in wanting to see more "after" photos! (Our Flickr photo group is right here.)
Reminder About This Week's Assignment:
In the Deep Treatment, you're diving headfirst into the bedroom, working to declutter and luxurify your space. Try to post photos on our Flickr group and comment over there or here — whichever works best for you — to take advantage of having your Cure buddies alongside for this ride. (Remember, we've only got two more weeks together!)
One-Room Remedy? Start cleaning up! This is as important as set up and it usually takes longer than you think, so start in on it now. Additionally, take a close look at your artwork this week. Fixing this can really make a room sing.

I painted the nursery last weekend, and I will try to get some pics up soon. The nursery won't be "ready" for several weeks, though. I have furniture coming that has not yet arrived. When everything is finally finalized, I'll post some more pics. Congrats to everyone who has cured any parts of their home!
I do believe my biggest accomplishment has been sticking with the Cure Deep Treatment program. It's really nice to see improvements throughout the house. I am also extremely happy with the newly streamlined office files, the kitchen hardware and lighting upgrades, and the clean oven.
We usually host dinner parties, so to 'mix' it up, I think we shall be throwing an end-of-the-program cocktail party.
That sounds wonderful wig. And it's great you've got some progress made on the nursery, heps.
There's so much left to do, here, I'm a bit stressed by the "deadline." I've a time delay with photos, too, so I don't know how I'll even let you know when there's something to see. Probably post something on the NY Open thread.
We did get the kitchen sink back into place--using the old screws. My husband soaked them in something over night to make the rust a bit more manageable. When I awoke this morning, he wasn't quite done. He was dissappointed and said he'd wanted to have it done before I woke up so it would be a nice surprise when I came into the kitchen this morning.
"Like Christmas."
It still felt wonderful. I promptly did the previous day's dishes and it was so much fun!
Where do you keep your discloth?
I used to keep mine draped over the faucet, but I don't want to do that anymore.
Alana - We hang our dishcloth over the wide oven door handle. Glad to hear the sink is back!
:) My room picture is featured!
So I'm pretty much done with the cleaning part of this week. Yesterday, I did "Fall Cleaning." Now I just need to think about some extra lighting. I don't have any overhead lights in my room (since the ceiling is concrete), just one free-standing lamp:

Maybe I should add a bedside table lamp?

Alana in Canada: we hang ours over the fridge handle, and throw used ones in a small basket near the kitchen/hallway entry (one room living is a bit tough for defined boundaries :-) )
Thanks for the input. Oven handle, fridge handle.
Hmm. Neither appeal, but I appreciate the feedback!
I can't believe I just spent about an HOUR fussing with my laundry hamper! I wanted to fix the back (it fell off) and re-cover it. It's one of those old fashioned rectangle thingys with a hinged lid. Cheap crap, but functional.
The back is "inset" both top and bottom and inside both sides: the challenge was to figure out how to get it in place. I can't even tell you how I did it. A screwdriver was somehow involved as a pry bar. But the sides at the back fell off and that took some figuring out. I feel like I could write the professional's Engineering Exam, now, after fiddling with it all afternoon.
I recovered it in white contact paper--and it really should be cream. Let's hope the dang thing doesn't fall apart again when I go to do that!
Oh, and the long dresser is Shiny White. It's reassembled and my clothes are back in it.
Now, I have to prime, paint and varnish the upright dresser. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe not.
Alana, about "where to put the dishcloth", I have one of those small towel holder thingies that's supposed to be for finger-tip towels in a bathroom -- I have my dishtowel on one side, and my dishcloth on the other. It may be visible in one of my kitchen pics, if not, I'll try to remember to take a pic to show you. (As soon as the chocolate brown blanket comes out of the dryer, I will be taking bedroom pics, and I'll leave one "click" for the kitchen.)
Hey Alana, there's always the option of mounting a random hook on the middle of a formerly perfectly respectable looking piece of wall and sticking the dishcloth there...
(see my flickr page if that doesnt' make sense, I highly do not recommend it as it looks like crud)
We are starting to lean towards the oven handle as well.
Anne, I always thought that was a hand towel. So, the secret is out! I'm glad you are going to change that.
The husband and I like the sink area just because we perceive it needs to "drip." I suppose it doesn't--we do wring it out, but when I mentioned "oven handle" (where we keep the dish towel and hand towel) he said: "what, it just drips on the floor?"
So there you have it.
Finished painting the second coat on the second side of the desk drawer supports. (Seven pieces). Tomorrow, they should be dry and I should be able to lay out the sides and start painting those. 2 coats per side, 12 hours between coats. If I'm lucky, I should be ready to reassemble the unit Tuesday and move the computer back in. Yay.
Here in the basement, I'm right under the bathroom plumbing. It's a bit freaky.
Oh--and the husband spent an hour putting nails in wood out in the garage to hold "small tools" like the trowels and small pruning shears and such. Hooray! (I didn't even tell him too.)
Re. the drips on the floor: Our dishcloth never gets so wet that it even requires wringing, so drips aren't an issue.
I think if my dishcloths were getting that wet, I would probably do what you've been doing (draping them over the faucet). So I guess I'm no help here!
Just dropped by from the Chicago thread to push my way into the conversation. Anh-Minh -- I'm not sure you and Alana are talking about quite the same thing... do you mean the small bit of cloth with which you wash the dishes or the larger bit of cloth with which you dry them? I'm assuming that Alana's talking about the former, and that generally gets wet enough to drip, unless you wring it out really well. Since you say yours never gets wet enough to drip, I'm thinking maybe you're talking about the latter. Maybe it's a difference between Canadian and American terminology? Or do other people use a sponge or something to wash the dishes, rather than what I would term a "dishcloth" which would be a small square, often loosely woven, cloth, which goes into the dishwater with the dishes and is used to scrub 'em clean? [ I may be all wet here... ;-) ]
smallcitybeth - You're totally right! Yes, I'm using dishcloth/dish towel interchangeably -- and I probably shouldn't? And I do indeed use a sponge (not a cloth item) when washing dishes. The thing I've got draping over the oven handle is just for drying occasionally. Now it all makes complete sense ... Thanks!
Fair enough, I guess mine is a hand towel/dish towel as we don't wash dishes with it, only dry them. It usually doesn't get drippy enough to worry about either. We use varieties of sponges to wash with and they live all in the sink area.
I like the painting. Where did you get it? Does anyone have suggestions on where to find great wall hangings?
Thanks!
Thanks Beth. It never even occured to me folks were talking about a dish towel.
I don't like sponges, they can harbour a lot of bacteria. But it would solve the problem of what to do with the dishcloth!
Just spent two hours helping my daughter clean her room. I'm exhausted. We decided to bring up a toy storage unit we had in the basement (the trofast by Ikea) to hold all her stuff. So, the two hours was spent merely sorting the FLOOR and various baskets and boxes into the tubs. We didn't even touch her shelves or her closet. She's seven and an enourmous pack-rat, unfortunately.
But now we have room in the basement for a couple of things taking up too much room in the kitchen. Hopefully, I'll have enough energy before the day is over to move those out.
The work just never ends, does it, Alana?
I've just uploaded a pic of my kitchen sink to Flickr, showing how I deal with dishtowels and dishcloths (well, actually, I'm currently without a proper dishcloth, because I can't find a white-with-red-accents one that meets my exacting standards, so there's a little white towel where the dishcloth should go, but it will give you the idea). It's both on my Flickr and my blog...

Bedroom pics coming up!
gobstopper38, it's an IKEA wall art, the HALLARYD, and it has a cool, textured canvas feel.
