It's about time! The Reduce Vision Stainless Steel Water Filtration pitcher from Base Brands is the first water filter pitcher to be made out of stainless steel. (Most water filtration pitchers are made out of plastic.) The Vision pitcher comes with one 90 day filter, but it's designed to also fit most major brand filters including Brita and Pur. It'll be available for sale this April.
As of right now, the filters that come with the pitcher are not returnable or recyclable, but they say they're working on that. In the meantime, it might be worth it to stick with a Brita filter, which you at least can recycle through the Preserve Gimme 5 program.

But...won't this make all your water taste like metal???
That's awesome! Any (approximate, even) idea what the cost will be?
I'm really not into stainless steel everything. Whatever happen to ceramic? I realize it's breakable but that's a viable alternative too.
or glass.....are there such things as glass water filters? I use glass mason jars for pretty much everything, from cups to tupperware, but I do have a plastic water filter pitcher....
handle and lid look like plastic...why dint they come up with a set in stainless (entirely)
Annnie, Design Within Reach has glass+rock+charcoal filter pitchers.

They're quite small, fragile, and expensive, but they're gorgeous and you'll find yourself happily displaying it and drinking from it if you manage to cough up the cash and bypass the first four pitchers to let the taste mellow down.
These natural filter sets last 6 months as opposed to 90 days, which is what made me splurge - I never remember to keep the Brita filled, and that supposedly compromises the filter's efficacy.
It would also make a stellar (wedding) gift.
This looks great, and my reuseable water bottles are stainless steel and the water tastes just fine. Don't forget that some tap water supplies are fine the way they are - we don't even need a filter. Just don't let Nestle get their grubby hands on your town water supplies.
Looks great, but let me guess... made in China?
Damn; I saw the photo and thought it might be an electric kettle. I think my kettle is the last big hunk of white plastic left in my kitchen.
@Step Schwarz--
I saw a stainless electric kettle at Target just today, don't remember who makes it but I think it was around $45.
