When I was out in California last month, I visited with Katie Ryan, a young artist who lived in a house full of artists. While their digs were very modest and most of the furniture came from garage sales and flea markets, the art on their walls was remarkable and eye catching, AND it was all made by her friends and classmates from the MFA program at UCLA. It was really nice to be in a home where the art really felt alive...

Of all that I saw, I was most taken with this piece by Antonio Adriano Puleo, which hung in her hallway (above). I took that pic and then went to hunt down more by Antonio, who lives nearby her Mount Washington home.

Innervisions (Outer Confinements) (From Set #1), 2008
Archival ink jet print, oil and acrylic on canvas mounted on board

Antonio is a 2003 graduate of UCLA and had his last show, Birds and Beasts, at the Cherry Martin Gallery in LA in 2007, where these pics come from. I won't try to explain why I like these, I just do. And that doesn't happen very often. Enjoy!
