The Gallery: Jennifer Cecere

Introducing a few bright contestants from Jennifer Cecere's mandala series; ornate thickets of lace, fabric and drawing. And unframed circles of canvas make a nice break from the dominant "rectangular" presentation of art!

Cecere begins with shapes are drawn onto translucent fabric and painted with watercolor washes. These are cut out like paper dolls, and arranged onto lace circles, creating a kaleidoscope of color and form. She finishes the pieces with intricate drawings of extruded acrylic paint, applied with modified pastry tubes like embroidery thread. She uses, “gel-thickened acrylic the way pastry chefs squeeze icing on their cakes...”!
