Beatrice, 2006. Woodcut with goauche painting, 27 1/2 x 19 1/2
Introducing Karla Roberts and her Venetian beauties. This print series brings together boat names and the faces of irons found during a residency in Venice. I'm stumped as to which I'd choose for my home; they each have such distinct personalities. So, thought I'd try a little beauty contest... (see all the contestants below)

Carolina, 2006. Woodcut with goauche painting, 27 1/2 x 19 1/2

Darla, 2006. Woodcut with goauche painting, 27 1/2 x 19 1/2
In the artist's words, "This print series came about as a response to the Venetian landscape. Each woodcut is of a different iron face that I cut to be larger than life, and the graphic images are intended to double as boat silhouettes. The irons and the names were found in Venice. Both the name and unique typestyle are drawn from real boats found there. The iron is woodcut and the name below is painted in gouache."
