A custom piece of art is a great way to celebrate mom this Mother's Day. With May 9th just three weeks away there's still time to hire Yasmine Molavi, a Los Angeles-based designer and illustrator to create one of her whimsical ink & watercolor portraits as an original for your mom. She does custom portraits for most other occasions, too.

Yasmine offers custom portraits on a seven-day-turnaround through her etsy shop. She uses archival materials to create authentic one-of-a-kind artwork, which is a fantastic alternative to cookie-cutter mass-produced art. Yasmine also offers custom greeting cards and pet portraits–because even though you can't be with your pet all day, you can at least have a custom portrait of them in your cubicle!

She works from photographs and captures the likeness and personality of her subjects. Her Persian heritage, upbringing in Vancouver, bizzaro cat, and her love of food have provided inspiration and influenced her unique style.

Yasmine says,

"A few ways in which I try to include green/sustainable living in my day-to-day activities are: making sure little or no paper ends up in the waste bins; transporting paper from my 9-5 job back home to use in my personal art and design projects; hunting the alleys of West Los Angeles for furniture finds that I can re-use in my own home; creating little toys for my cat Moosh out of empty toilet paper rolls to play with. (This keeps her busy so she doesn't drink out of the toilet bowl or chew on toilet paper –yes, she is a bit bizarre!); re-using Nutella jars (I go through a lot of Nutella) as spice jars, and walking or biking to work."
