Living in a loft can present some problems, most notably the lack of defined spaces. Because We Can design studio was brought in to tackle this very interior design dilemma and they came up with an ingenious way to maximize utility, creating a nearly hidden home office space, without intruding on the open space floor plans.
What's obviously most striking about this design solution from Because We Can is the wrap-around stairs that double up as shelving cubbies on the side, providing usable and decorative storage space without the presence of bulky and typical furniture. It's sort of like a modern under the stairs, Harry Potter home office, and a two-in-one winner in our book.
Underneath the library loft [sigh] is a custom fold down desk with roll out bench, creating an easy to hide home office; a modest sized iMac tucked away in the corner (we'd probably would personally want the iMac wall mounted into a recessed element of the wall above the fold down table for more usable surface area, but perhaps this owner doesn't require as much computer time as we do. Nevertheless, it's a great idea of utilizing often neglected and wasted space for double duty.

Shaw's Original Fir...
The fold-down desk and rolling bench are quite large. I wouldn't want to sit on a bench at a computer or desk, I'd need a backrest of some sort. That setup doesn't seem very ergonomic.
I like the cubby, but as a computer work station it could use a few improvements (wall mount the monitor, use a rolling cart or something for the keyboard and mouse...).
The storage stairs are brilliant and really nice looking!
Awesome stair!
Love the idea of tucking the office into the storage area, but needs one more level of refinement I think... for example, why can't you completely hide the computer when not in use? What does that desk look like when folded up, and what's the purpose of having it fold away? Where do you put the stuff that's on it when you DO fold it up? Don't you smack your head on the shelf directly above the monitor? Any attempt at cable management??
I find myself wishing that the staircase itself folded into that alcove and covered the office... now THAT would be cool.
