An excellent video posted by Mark Frauenfelder over at Boing Boing, created by Aaron Trinder discussing how differently we all work and the importance of ownership of a desk/workspace. Thank goodness for the death of nomadic/flexible workspaces popularized a little more than a deade ago; there's something inherently important in the ownership and customization of one's own work area, a place many of us spend the majority of our lives seated at. Whether working/creating at home or in an office, having a place all your own - your desk - is as important as of a tool as any computer or stationery….
For some a clean, sparse desk is essential and for others it’s a litter of papers and pictures. How do you feel about your desk? We're in Michigan this week meeting with the Herman Miller team but when we get home we'll post some pics of our new desk. We recently moved houses and converted our new garage into a home office…and playroom and spare bedroom. The desk was really important to us. In this multi-purpose space it is the one area that is truly our own. And we agree with Mark – Iwewish this short little film was longer!
