I recently tossed my West Elm jute rug (in Platinum), which had been faded by the bright sun through my San Francisco bay window. The rug lasted about 2 years, thanks to it being reversible, but I'm ready for a new look. I'm stumped though.
I love the feel of a Flokati shag on my bare feet, but I hear they shed. Do I go with a bolder pattern, like the Moroccan prints I see everywhere? Or do I play it preppy with stripes? Finally, there's the Anthropologie floral print that will require a bit of redecorating but that I kinda love. Help! Which rug would you choose for my small space?

Shaw's Original Fir...
i'm instantly drawn to #2
My vote is for the last one Coqo Floral Rug. It would look incredible with the colors you already have and stand on its own without overtaking the room.
No rug, your floors are beautiful.
I vote #3 in coral, would bring some nice warmth and color to the room without overpowering what you already have working for you.
I'm instantly drawn to #2 like Jaime, but the third and last choice are great, too. I'd pick something with a white-ish background to stand out on the beautiful dark floors.
I vote the "handmade Soho medallion light blue New Zealand wool rug." Anything resembling polka dots makes my heart soft.
Rugs 4 & 5 photos are switched.
I like either the Bogart or the Soho Medallion.
I like number 3 in either gray or coral
I'm with ArchDarling on the coral, but I think it's always best to go with the one you love best. That's so much more important than matching!
I like the Coqo, I think it would add a bold pop to your room but look good with the furniture.
2nd choice is the Bogart, probably in the teal. But check out www.shadesoflight.com, whose prices are much better on similar patterns!
*sorry - I misread; it was Noelle153 who suggested the coral one!
i agree with ojanet . no rug!
Personally, I'd go with a thick-piled Flokati-type thing, that left plenty of wood-floor border showing.
Why don't you put some UV film on your windows so the new rug lasts you a while?
2 or 6
#2 I think the texture with shiney would be great. I have a cheap Flokati rug and the shedding is not a problem. Those flat weave wool rugs, even the hand woven ones will shed anyway.
You have really beautiful floors..I would pick one that is smaller than your original one for the winter-Flokati great-no rug at all in the summer.
Love that last one. And I think I've got that page of the company store catalog open at home right now -- love all those stripes. But I think it would be a pretty cottage-y look, which, while I like that, isn't so much what you've got going on in your room.
I'm kind of devastated to hear your west elm juste boucle lasted only 2 years, as I just bought one for my living room about 2 weeks ago. Maybe mine won't fade because it's natural?
Bogart in grey or yellow!
I love #6, but get it in lime green, and then add a few green accessories for a different punch of color!
My first pick would be the handwoven new zealand rug because I think it would make your lounge look extra homely ^_^ however so would number 6. Number 2 would work great also.
I hope by "toss" you meant freecycled or recycled or something. Buying a brand new rug every two years seems really wasteful.
You can't lose... you've picked so many beauties. But I would love a little warmth, so the stripes, or coral Bogart get my vote.
All the rugs would look great. I think before you decide on pattern, decide on color. Since the room is dominated by cool colors, the rug could blend in by choosing another cool color, or contrast and really draw your eye in by choosing a warm color.
the coqo floral rug in tomato! would bring out all the wonderful blues and greys in your furniture and would also highlight your wonderful dark floors.
none of the above.
a red oriental type and bamboo shades!
I vote for the Bogart in Ivory or Gray. The Flokati looks fine if you're looking straight down at it, but from a side angle it looks like flecked dog fur.
your room will look larger if you don't have a rug.
Don't mind me, but can you please share where you got the wooden chair with the cushion?
I vote not the flokati and not the D&A. I kind of wish you had a picture of the rug in the room before you tossed it, since for whatever reason I don't really understand the scale. Did you have the front legs of the sofa on the rug? What about the chair? etc.
I'm not sure why the coqo rug would mean you'd have to change your curtains when the soho medallion apparently doesn't, but you'd know better than I. Between those two I'd actually lean a bit more towards the coqo because the contrast would be greater than than just another pale blue, since both the couch and chair appear to be some shade of pale blue?
Flokati would be the most chic, less trendy pattern and the texture is nice for this living room. Everything looks really nice!
What would bepsf do? (Where is bepsf, by the way?)
Personally I like a bold print like #2 or #3, but if you want to go for something more patterned and colorful, may I suggest:

I have this at home and love it.
You need something darker than any of those choices to ground your light colored sofa and chair.
go with this? http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Hand-tufted-World-Classic-Bluish-grey-Wool-Rug-5-x-8/4817426/product.html fits the style you're going for, gives some pop, ground the room a bit and is cheap. and i almost bought this for my living room and am curious to see it in action
I think it is #5, the Coqo Floral rug. To me you need to bridge the gap between the light walls and furnishings and the darker floor. Something is needed to pull the two opposites together and ground the room. The light AND dark in the Coqo Floral rug will do that.
Looks like babyfishmouth and I agree on the need for grounding your furniture! I didn't read the responses before I gave my opinion so I wouldn't be swayed. Looks like a lovely room and any of the more colorful choices will look great. I'd just stay awayfrom the neutrals.
I think you need a nice warm color, whatever design you choose.
I like # 3. Not sure which color.
Thanks guys! I'll tally the votes but good to know I'm on the right track. Migrant - I found the chair at a vintage shop and reupholstered it with black and white houndstooth.
Definitely the bogart in green or yellow. I personally love the green because it ties the excess of blue-grey that you have in this room to the orangey shade of the wood flooring.
It also looks like you have some flowers that you periodically put out, right? It'd also tie the flowers in nicely and draw them a little closer into the room's theme! But the yellow is nice and bright, too... and it looks like this room could use a little bit of brightening! :)
coqo floral all the way!
Coqo floral, in blue, like in the photo.
I can't decide, I like them all! I think you could go with any one of them. The floors are beautiful bare.
That's hard. I like all the choices but I have to say #2 would make the space cozy and soft and a little more glam (it's already a great space).
1 or 3
I love Dash and Albert rugs, so that would get my vote- BUT, I think Red Framboise would serve as an unexpected pop of color, while still complimenting the colors in your room. As a close second, I'd choose the Anthro rug (so pretty!). Good luck!
I was definitely going to vote Coqo floral, in blue as shown--I think you need something a little dark and bold to ground the room, and I would stick with the same palette and not get anything in coral, red, etc. Then I saw the link dudecrew posted, which also looks great and meets those criteria, and costs a fraction of what the Coqo rug does, so that seems like an awesome suggestion, too. Alternatively, I could see going with something in white/ivory and textural, like the flokati, but I don't like the diamond pattern on the one posted above. I would avoid another mid-tone color, like the medallion and maybe the gray bogart, because I think it would start to look really bland with the mid-tone upholstery and curtains.
I like the last one, but your floors look really great. The white of the last rug would drive me crazy to clean, but I really like how it looks.
#2!
I own #3 and love it!
I have the "Bogart" flat weave wool rug in grey in the same size. It's a very nice rug, but keep a look out for it on overstock.com, I got ours for half that price. I didn't even know it was sold elsewhere 'till about a year later, and was totally shocked to see the price.
You have a beautifully balanced room and an inmaculate floor..... Do you really need a rug?
Adding a rug, would certainly mean beauty overkill....You would have to edit something else in the room to keep the wonderful look you've achieved so far.
No rug! Your floors are great!
