Memorial Day, early this year, marks the beginning of summer for us. And, with the days getting longer and it staying light out later, we have been finding that the rhythm of our life changes. It feels odd to eat dinner while the sun's still shining so our dinner parties start later. It gets lighter later so we're not as eager to get up for an early morning class or hike or even to get out of bed...
In our home, the places where the sun streams in are naturally the places we gravitate towards. The spot on the sofa, warmed by the sun, is the preferred place for cat napping, reading or just daydreaming; the bedroom's soft morning light beckons us to stay in bed; the living room's best as the sun sets and the light cuts across the center of the room. Hopefully, we have a garden we can linger in or a friend with a pool they're willing to share or even a front step we can sit on. Later in the summer, we'll curse the sun and the heat but for now, while the climate's still temperate, we open our homes to the sun and revel in its warmth.

I find it far easier to get out of bed when the sun is up and the sky is bright than when it's still dark or the skies are cloudy and grey...
...and I love walking home after work knowing that I still have a couple hours of sunlight to enjoy in the evening rather than rushing home in the darkness.
bespf, agreed - it's much easier to get up when you see the sun out rather than not
I usually curse the sun and the heat, Abby, but Im allowed to do so since here where I live it's summer the whole year! ;) I live in the hottest/warmest region of Brazil!!!
I'm with mouracs. Here in Honolulu my south-facing wall of windows with too little of an overhang can be brutal much of the year.
We're already in the 90s F, so we ARE cursing the sun!
i prefer gray days...so NY definitely over LA where there's very little variance,
Ahhh Bridget....I prefer gray days also. Too bad for me I live in Florida where it's so bright most of the time.
don't get me wrong i like both but sometimes the sunny and 80 every day gets BORING - i'd like any kind of weather just to mix it up...
So dreading June gloom here in SoCal. I prefer sun to the dank, dreary marine layer.
I don't mind gray, so long as it's raining and unfortunately, we've had very little rain the past few years.
