We are constantly thinking of great DIY projects we should do; however, very rarely do they come to fruition. This is, in part, because we don't actually have the skills for said projects. Though we think this could all change... Located primarily in Oakland, The Institute of Urban Homesteading has just begun its inaugural season of classes, which focus on "the garden, the kitchen, and things done by hand." Classes offered range from printmaking and mosaics to canning, winemaking, organic gardening, and beekeeping. Tile-setting and welding classes are also in the works, to which we say, sign us up! You can suggest a future class topic (or propose one if you are the teaching type) through the website - Intro Carpentry, anyone?
