When I think of the interiors designed by Roman and Williams, two words come to mind — masculine and sexy. While their spaces often use a limited color palette, they are full of contrasting textures, rich woods, sumptuous leathers, amazing lighting and a touch of sense of humor through the art and accessories. They are the types of homes I imagine the modern Don Draper relaxing in with his Old Fashioned.
Founded in 1999, Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors is named after the grandfathers of owners (and couple) Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch. As a statement against the modernist aesthetic that seemed to be taking over the New York skyline, they opted to choose "quality materials, exceptional craftsmanship, rigor and functionality" to shape their designs. And while they have designed homes for a Guggenheim, Ben Stiller and Kate Hudson, their design of the Ace Hotel has quickly brought their work to the attention of the mainstream.
Here are some examples of their amazing interiors:
1-2 - 211 Elizabeth Street, New York, New York.
3 - Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch in their loft.
4 - 157 Chambers Street, Tribeca, New York
5 - Montauk House, Montauk, New York. Weekend home of Standefer and Alesch.
6 - Castilian Residence, Los Angeles, California.
7 - Roman and Williams Offices, New York, New York.
8-9 - The Ace Hotel NY, New York, New York.

Shaw's Original Fir...
The black woodwork in the Elizabeth St space is stunning!
I second the black woodwork and the cabinetry in the third picture is making me jealous/envious/covetous, etc.
I love these spaces -
Particularly enjoy the use of animal skins, leather, dark woods, deep colors raw steel, and those red tartan wing chairs w/ the crossed leather belts on the backs
This stuff is great. Give me more.
I love that first picture, I could definitely feel at home there!

Love Elizabeth st!!!
Montauk is definitely my favorite! That's close to how I envision my living room in the distant future. Castilian is amazing too. I could do that in a family room, or modify it for a dining room.
I LOVE this. The kitchen is amazing. It feels like a warm cave.
I love the juxtaposition of cozy and industrial. Beautiful spaces!

The black woodwork is bold and delivers an impact that no other colour could. More people should think outside the square, the use of colour in interior decorating creates more atmosphere than anything else.
