We see so many rooms that don't have a hint of "commercial kid" and are filled with vintage pieces and salvaged and made finds that it's easy to forget, some battles you just won't win. No matter how badly you love the look of that wiener dog painting from the thrift store in combination with that unruly stack of books, your child is bound to win a round or two and that's exactly what happened here. Take a look at this mom's concession after the jump!
Abbey over at Aesthetic Outburst gave us quite a chuckle this morning as we gazed through her writings about the makings of her son's big boy room. There's vintage furniture, cool artwork, heck, there's even a teepee! But sleep would not be had in just any bed, so instead of pulling teeth to get the exact look she had invisioned, Abbey let her son pick the only bed he wanted — "a crazy bubble car bed."
We love that even though the room is dressed from top to bottom in vintage modern kid cool decor, that there's a giant plastic smiling bed in the corner because really...who wouldn't want to sleep in that thing? Abbey's experience serves as a great real world reminder that you won't win every battle when it comes to designing your children's spaces, but that even a giant plastic smiling bubble car bed can be awesome in its own right.
Make sure to head over to Aesthetic Outburst and check out the full space from top to bottom, it's a great room and we're slightly jealous of that teepee!

As far as plastic beds go, that is the best I've ever seen. Too cute.
That is hilarious... and real!
I love this post. I think that all the time, when I see a beautifully designed room for a child: does the kid like it? I let my 13 yr old daughter pick out the decor for her room when we moved to a new house. The raspberry pink paint and Taylor Swift posters don't exactly go with the vintage-modern vibe of the rest of the house, but it's her space, she should be happy with it.
Love this. And I agree, GDW, this is the best plastic bed ever.
When kids start to form their own opinions about their space I think we as parents should bow out gracefully and let them explore their own creative spirit; no matter how pink glittery or Clone Wars postered that spirit is.
