Prefabs are gaining momentum lately,
but the ones I've seen in the mags have all been pretty boxy: straight lines, stern modernism, and walls of glass. So, when friends of mine told me that they were building a prefab house on their lot on the outskirts of San Diego, I was expecting an offshoot of the Glide House
. Imagine my surprise when they sent me a photo of their rustic cedar mansion courtesy of Lindal
The look they were going for was "something you'd see at Big Sur. Or a ski lodge in Aspen." While I'm loving the fact that this prefab is something different from the recent trends that I've seen so far, I'm having a hard time trying to picture a house like this in LA.
