Name: Baby Leimenstoll (aka "Leimabean")
Location: Ellicott City, MD
My husband and I are expecting our first child (a little boy) in just a few weeks. We've been referring to him as "Leimabean" - one of the few good nicknames that comes from a last name like Leimenstoll (lime-en-stall). Putting this room together was a joy.
I've always loved the color orange and toyed for a few weeks with painting the walls that color. I picked a MUCH more neutral shade of gray for the walls to keep things flexible for the future, and decided I'd accent with all of the bright colors I love. It's a really small room, and I knew we wouldn't fit much more than his crib (Buy Buy Baby), changing table (Land of Nod) and glider (Buy Buy Baby) in there. Despite the small space, I knew I could make it great with the details.
I picked up the Alphabet Sampler at a great local shop called Trohv in Baltimore and the curtains at IKEA early on in the pregnancy and they really dictated the design of the rest of the room. I think the chevron rug is one of my favorite pieces in the room (Urban Outfitters) and does a good job of blending the white furniture with the beige rugs, and keeps things from getting too babyish. I collected the art, shelf "sit upons", and seal lamp over time (some years before we even were ready to have a baby!) - a fun, random collection of things that made me happy. The rest of the items were collected during the pregnancy.
My mom made the sweet Hungry Caterpillar quilt. The yellow Wellies were a favorite shower gift. The little red wagon was the center piece at one of my showers. I made the colored-pencil artwork with a cheap shadow box, a new set of Crayola pencils and a glue gun. The book holders/shelves were from the ELF storage system at The Container Store (a stolen Pinterest project). I made the button push-pins from stickers. The giraffe picture is from a great shop on Etsy. The other frames pieces were shower cards that I framed. Mostly all of the empty frames are from Ikea (god bless Ikea) for future pics of our growing family.
The bamboo is planted in a container of marbles (which were my husband's when he was a kid) and dried lima beans spray painted blue (I knew when the baby picked up his nickname that I'd have to incorporate lima beans in some way!)
The mobile was made by a friend in Charlotte who does amazing work with felt. Our "first born" is our 3 year old Westie named Frank, so I knew a Frank-mobile would only be appropriate!
I know the baby won't have an opinion of his room for a long time, but I'm hoping my love for this room and our little guy will help make the 3 am feedings that much more enjoyable!
Thanks Meghan! Readers, say hi at Go On...Be a Leimenstoll.
