Here's a timely revisit of a romantic local resource:fresh flowers. We buy a bunch to brighten up our apartment once a week. But when we want to do it big: the grand romantic gesture or just an extravagance of fresh posies to soothe our ravaged soul, we bypass our florist and go straight to the source, heading downtown to The Los Angeles Flower Market.
The Los Angeles Flower Market is located on Wall Street between 7th and 8th Streets in two face-to-face buildings. After 8 am, Monday, Wednesday and Friday or 6 am, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, a $2 entrance fee will give us entrance to the bustling market. Once inside, our favorite sources for high quality imported blooms are Mayesh, Choice, Holland and Mellano. But we also have a secret source, Milagra Floral Imports, an importer located just north of the market that will sell to the public during "trade only" business hours, meaning we can zip downtown after a late night, fill our car and wake up to a roomful of flowers.
