This cozy cottage-style Martha's Vineyard guest room features walls covered in vintage maps between the rafters. At first glance, the treatment almost looks like textured fresco or time-worn patina.

The owner's uncle tore apart a book of maps more than 25 years ago and covered the walls in its pages, and gave the wooden beams a pickled finish to complement the antique look. Today the room retains the custom wall decor and is modernized with crisp white linens, pillows in geometric patterns, and shapely lamps.

I'm not a fan of ruining books, but this looks amazing.
You don't have to tear apart a book to get those maps. They're the maps mariners use for coastal navigation.
You can buy them at marine supply places or view them online at http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/OnLineViewer.html I recommend going online to figure out which one you want before heading off to buy them. There are about 1000 for the US coast.
There are links here to order them or to find a local business that sells them: http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/paperchart.html
def not DYI project..
love this feel
@ MonicaK - the uncle slapped some maps on the wall - how much more DIY can you get?
I love this concept. I think it would also be great to do with vintage fashion magazines/design plans; even architectural drawings. The patina of the paper really adds a nice texture and softness to the space.
Looks really nice!
Maps can be tricky, but when done correctly it is amazing.
Love it. The problem I would never be able to get my husband in bed and away from the walls
For a second, I thought this might be a post about my favorite bar in Chicago, The Map Room. Covered in maps, as well as full of atlases, etc. Worth a visit if you're in town.
Ditto henatayeb. My boyfriend is obsessed with maps and he'd probably never leave the room...but it's a very cool concept.
