The Modernist pairs naked people with icons of modern furniture. It's their fetish. For example, the nice young woman above eventually gets entirely naked with that lovely chair and desk. We won't show all of it, but some is below the jump.... Move over, Mitchell Gold.

well if this isn't "house porn" I don't know what is...
seriously?
I don't get it.
Two favorites in life. Mies Van der Rohe Barcelona bed and a beautiful woman on it. Great table she is working on. Love the Radio.
Open your minds people this is probably the most exciting and creative thing on AT in months. Obviously there is a sexual connotation but perhaps look past that. However, I forgot AT caters to crate and barrel lovers, people who warship Mitchell Gold and so on..Here I go again. Eh..
Makes me glad I collect nice furniture. Check out their site.
Um, undressed woman on furniture. Yeah, michaelc, OUTRAGEOUSLY cutting edge and creative. Um, not. (And no, I would not feel differently were it naked hunks instead of Euro-waifs straddling a Bertoia...)
And I've never understood people (like you michaelc) who have to take a passing swipe at others when professing their own preferences. Say what you like, but leave the "and y'all are hicks for not agreeing" out of it.
To each his/her own, and leave it at that, please.
OMG! I know that girl from the top! She is a friend of mine from Chicago we were in the same fashion program. She used a picture from that set in her Myspace.
Ewww....boobies on my 'puter!
It's not furniture and naked people...it's furniture and naked women in sexually suggestive poses.
Does anyone else feel that the photos are awkward and a bit amateurish? I'm not against the concept, I just feel that it could be executed with more style and impact.
For the love of god take it easy patick. I did not feel my comment was inappropriate nor did I say anything juvenile. Not that I am looking for recognition based on that point but this is something different. My comment was not intended to further promote this presentation but actually embrace it.
Furthermore, I have every right to be critical or better yet display my likes and dislikes, this is a blog correct? My suggestion that AT caters more towards the domestic styles I feel is justified based on past topics.
I could go on and on but I am not...
I think hdtex cleared things up quite well. Ugh.
I always forget...what's the correct spelling of "trite"?
I just think you were slightly condescending in your original comment, and felt the need to take a swipe at "the masses" with your word choice like "warship" (sic) which has some definite connotations to it. And I just hate it when AT is painted with such a broad brush.
And, um, so when *I* express *my* opinion about your comment, aren't I entitled to be critical too, based on your own blogrules?
Fetishizing the fetishized.
So brilliant!
I'm tired now.
i would feel differently were it naked hunks ... give me a naked hunk straddling a Fornasetti!
Pass the Lysol please.
FYI, for those of us tuning in through the feeds, that whole "below the jump" thing doesn't happen. With your current settings, we see the whole thing without "read more" links.
I am REALLY glad I didn't get to this post while I was doing some blog-skimming at work this week. I would hate to get called into my manager's office because of an interior design blog.
It's not very good photography. Michaelc and Patrick the Other One were more entertaining.
This looks like something Playboy would have run circa 1962. The edge has had time to wear off.
Yeah, yeah, naked women. Does anyone know what fabric that is in the first picture?
Yes, what's that fabric? (Pic 2: Did she unzip her top because of a tricky seam? Pic 3: Did she give up on the tricky seam? Pics 4 & 5: I can't relate.)
Hmmm, let's see...five scenarios...woman, woman, woman, woman, and woman. As a hetero woman I can only say, Yawn. And, Next time could we please think of the women who might want to see a nice GUY in the scenario?
Wow... you would think these people would be over gender roles by now. This piece is 1) played and 2) nauseating.
subbes,
ya know, that has been my thought as well. i complained about something in a previous post & was just heckled. at least they put it in the title this time. so, fair enough i guess.
but yeah, i learned my lesson. no reading at at work or at a library. i use a reader as well.
i'm by no means a prude, but last i checked throwing a naked-ish chick in w/ some cool furniture wasn't avant garde. the 2nd to the last pic actually looks like an american apperal ad if you ask me.
step one of the cure: use a handy wipe to get the skank nasty off your chair. :P hehe
What about MALE models??? And the execution could be a little more cutting edge, but I do like the idea.
If these had been artful pairings of human form and furniture form, with some interesting composition, it would pass as art.
These are just bad soft porn. And not even good furniture.
Maybe AT should try to do it better - or at least volunteer better furniture for the shoots.
I still prefer flowers...but maybe when I tire of them this could be my next project :)
I found two photos of Giovanni Ribisi sitting in Eames for a shoot that make him so appealing to me. He didn't even have to take his clothes off.
As a photographer, I can agree the concept is interesting, if only the execution would have been better. I feel if you are catering to fans of modern design and pin-ups, then try to focus on the angles of the furniture and body. These photos are just plain sloppy work.
And the models simply aren't cutting it. They are insipid and plain. They don't compliment the pieces of art they are rubbing their goods all over.
This sums up my feelings about the project. (NWS)

There is noting new about this kind of pictures. what about half naked ladies "doin' the nasty" on top of exotic cars.
