The long awaited return of the much-missed Domino has hit the newsstands over the past few days — the $11 issue is titled Quick Fixes and is the first of two planned for 2012. I haven't seen a copy yet, but the word is that this special edition reuses the old editorial photos from the original run of issues, with some updated ideas, resources, and shopping info.
As the happy owner of every issue (I was a subscriber from day one) as well as the Domino book, it sounds like I may have already seen most (or possibly even all, based on some of the not-so-happy posts/tweets I've read) of the images, but am still looking forward to taking a peek next time I make it out to the bookstore. Until then, we'd love for those of you who have picked up a copy to let us know what you think of the title's return.

Sprout Side Table
Domi-Noooo! I am sad they just repackaged the old. One of the great things about Domino was how fresh it was! I have never missed a magazine as much as I miss that one.
What do we think is the chance that these issues are a test balloon to gauge interest in a re-launch? Wishful thinking on my part? I loved pretty much everything about that magazine. The editorial viewpoint, i.e. you may not be a millionaire but you still love style and the stylish. . Loved the visuals. Loved the shopping links.
I still can't believe that Conde Nast shuttered Domino and kept that rigor mortis-bound bible of beige, aka Architectural Digest, on life support.
I, too, was a Domino charter subscriber and have every issue - two copies of a few because I became convinced mine was lost in the mail and purchased one on the newstand just in case.
Usually I would get my issue on Saturday and have a very happy afternoon relaxing and reading.
Sigh!
Yes! I just picked up my copy at my local Whole Foods here in Venice. There's new material, though I unfortunately can't say how much, since I didn't start reading Domino until the tail end of its run. It is, however, over 100 pages of beautiful glossy photos and tips. The first page includes: ". . . along with fresh stories and thrilling new things to buy (we know that's your favorite part!), we've highlighted the magazine's best and sanest solutions—with an emphasis on saving you time, money, and stress. . . ." It's organized into three main sections: The Makeover Manual (mini projects), The Inspirations, and The Sourcebook. Masthead comes at the end.
It's an interesting concept...I would have hoped for a brand spankin' new special issue. This issue seems a little random to me, despite the attempt at macro-categorization. But I'm still glad to have it, loving Domino!

Don't wish too hard. If it IS a test it's doomed to failure based on reviews. Who in his right mind part with $11 for a rerun? The very idea is ANTI what Domino was all about.
(lol @ *that rigor mortis-bound bible of beige* description. well said)
The content is definitely stock photos from the magazine and book, which is a let down because I loved domino for it's original images and was expecting something new from this 'special edition'. The initial excitement of having a new Domino in my posession died off when I realized I really just paid 10 bucks for photos we've all seen a million times to be printed on high gloss paper. We've all just been duped.
Oh my goodness I was a Domino fanatic I too have all the originals and the Design Book,
Please bring Domino back and don't cheat us by just bringing some copies of the originals because the die hard Domino fans like myself will accept nothing but new data.
Let's start a petition guys, bring Domino back please!...:)
Well a good gauge of interest should be the fact that I have been to two barnes and nobles and have not found a copy yet. :(
@rejean, I had the same thought.
I actually got mine from Kroger. I was shocked to find it there. I guess I'd forgotten enough of the content (sadly I didn't keep many of my issues) that it still felt fresh enough to me. $11 was a bit much, but I'm still glad to see SOMETHING from Domino.
I didn't keep mine either, and I am going to rush out to find one. Online magazines just don't do it for me -- I want to hold the magazine, dog-ear pages, find it lying around and serendipitously turn to just the right page, all that old-fashioned, twentieth-century tactile stuff we don't do anymore. Who'll pay $11 for a Domino rerun? (waving hands) me! me!
I think I'll have to take the plunge--I was so sad when Domino went out of print, and I don't save magazines, so I only have the last couple of issues, which I saved because I found out they were going out if print. I think I may have to pick up the new one--it would be worth it to me to have the "best of" from the past, and I hope to see more freshness coming from future issues.
It was love at first sight with the magazine. Not so much with this special edition. I definitely expected more for the price! Too much rehashing of old stuff. However, I do wish they'd bring back the magazine!
It pales in comparison next to any old issue of Domino. Very disappointing.
If it's $11 where you are, it'll be $20 in Canada. Too much for any magazine when I can sit and look at pretty pictures on the internet all day (Hello AT).
Bought the last copy at the TriBeCa Barnes&Noble. I can only hope that this means a comeback on the way...
I've said it a million times. If they released boxed sets of the entire run of Domino, they could easily sell them for $70-$80 for it and I'd gladly fork over the cash.
I haven't been able to find it here in Los Angeles yet.
I've seen it at my local Target store. I own every single copy of Domino (even ordered a couple issues from Ebay just after they stopped publishing to complete my collection) and would be THRILLED if they came out with fresh content. That being said, I opted not to buy a copy because I could tell it was mostly reprinted material from their back archive. Very disappointing.
i got it two weeks ago. there were some new photos. not a lot, but you know they're new because some are product images from new DVF, Anthropologie and John Robshaw collections. but mostly, you've seen it:

people really need to stop self-deluding that this will be a relaunch. it's a periodic "best of" bookazine just like bhg does all the time.
With regard to the recycled content - it IS a bummer, but the layout and feel of the magazine does help to make it feel fresh, in my opinion. I've heard speculation that Conde Nast does plan to re-launch if the special edition goes well. So, if you think of this issue as a test launch, I guess it makes sense that CN doesn't want to re-invest in the mag unless it sells.... which it is. Fingers crossed!
I have been to several store in downtown Chicago. No one has it or has heard of it. Guess my next stops are Whole Foods & Barnes & Noble in the 'burbs.
