Recently I had a rare chance to watch TV without recording it first. In my world, the only commercials that exist are on Hulu since my viewing habits never correspond with when shows actually air. So during a real live (well not live live), commercial break, I caught a glimpse of a new product from Cottonelle.
Although toilet paper roll covers are nothing new ($5 bucks says your Grandparents had some crocheted cover when you were younger), Cottonelle seems to think they have a new twist on the idea.
Their hard case allows you to hold one roll on the back or your toilet in style. I won't lie, in my head I giggled when I said style. It's obvious that you have toilet paper sitting out, no matter what it's dressed in. In small spaces this can be a bit more of a challenge (in large spaces multiple rolls can pass as a design choice), so although it's obvious what's inside, it could help out the look of your bathroom.
Will you buy one? There's multiple design choices available and we're sure new ones will be on the way. Is that enough to persuade you to purchase one or do you think they're a silly adornment for the bathroom? Share your thoughts below!

They aren't for sale. They are/were an online promotion. You enter a UPC code from their product, they send one to you. I really like the design idea. But, sadly, they are all out.
I don't know... This kind of seems like another cash grab for companies that they'll soon be convincing people they "need" to have. Have you seen the commercial for laundry machine washer? We're getting kind of ridiculous now, don't you think?
Just what the world needs...more packaging that will just be thrown away.
I don't get the point of covering 1 toilet roll. Most of us buy toilet paper in 4, 8, 16+ packages. I don't like toilet paper rolls all around the bathroom all willynilly, but I won't buy (or get something for free, per @quiltmaster) this or anything like it that hides only 1. I'm more inclined to throw it all in one place. A fancy/classy/whatever box or, in my case, a curtained closet unit by the potty makes more sense.
And word, @CraigslistDecorator. Between the laundry machine washing soap (?)+dishwasher washing soap (??)+garbage disposal washing soap (???), I'm cool. Imma vinegar convert. Forget alla that extra stuff.
I love the look of the containers, but I doubt that's what I'd use it for. Yeah, I'm the one with 10+ rolls under the sink. Also, I don't buy the brand, so I can't get the UPS to buy one of the durn things!
I just want that lady's sweater.
I used Google to find a UPC and signed up for one for free a few weeks ago. It came the other day. Nice idea and all, but lazy family members like to take the roll out of the holder and not refill it. Pretty pointless if you ask me.
It's a step up from the grandma Barbie doll with a crocheted skirt covering the toilet roll (remember those?) - but - I think spare tissue rolls in a large glass vase tucked into a corner work just fine for us (and the vase was free).
Actually, when the free promo first was advertised many months ago I registered online for them to send me one. It never arrived. Pointless x2.
I'll respect my roll by placing it in the cabinet with the other 2 or 3 spare ones.
Waste-o-money. Put an extra roll in the drawer, cupboard, closet. Avoid clutter and waste. When the one on the holder runs out, put on a new one. Hello!
I don't get it. "Respect the Roll". How much respect do you really need to give something that's going to end up wiping your dirty butt? Seems like a waste of time. Just keep your toilet paper under the sink like everyone else.
What a dumb idea.
I understand that the designs on the holders may be relatively stylish and "now" but overall this is a totally useless piece of plastic that will end up in landfills when everyone realizes they have no need for such silly crap.
When these commercials started airing on tv I couldn't help myself from practically shaking my fists in anger at the television.
It's already been said here, but most people keep their extra rolls under the sink or in a place with all of the other extra rolls. The idea that one spare roll needs to be displayed (maybe for a guest room so the guest doesn't have to go hunting in an unknown bathroom) makes sense but the idea that an exposed roll of toilet paper is offensive to the eye is idiocy. Covered or not it's still sitting on the back of the crapper.
To me inventing a stylish piece of plastic garbage that serves a single unnecessary purpose is truly offensive and downright shameful.
I already use the top of my toilet's tank for storage of baby wipes (they're in a pretty, discreet, turquoise wooden box and they're used for wiping down various surfaces and for "bathing" my pet rats periodically), so there really isn't room for another piece of junk.
Besides that, I keep all the spare rolls in a basket in the corner next to the toilet.
I'm thinking that if you want a cover for your toilet paper, it would be pretty easy to just make one yourself.
My bath is pretty small (like 4x5) so I keep the mother lode of tp in the other larger bathroom. I made one out of a coffee can covered in funky damsk duct tape.:)
Whew! Glad that I'm not the only one who isn't feeling this new product.
For those of us who have small-ish bathrooms, it's just not practical to leave cans of things around out in the open. I stash my tp either in the cabinet under the sink, or in the hall closet...
I keep my spare rolls under the sink, but if I had open shelves, I don't see any reason for one or two nice tidy unused rolls to be out in plain sight -- nothing disgusting about a roll of TP...
I can't relate to people in commercials who have super neat hair and makeup and perfectly blase pastel outfits. So no I probably won't get one. Plus the idea is stupid.
Come on!! These are hideous, tacky and so crass looking. Did you get paid to do this story? What is happening to this site?
I thought these commercials were a joke. I maintain that stance.
@edin, calm down.. Sarah is NOT pushing the product on us. It's just a commercial she watched and wanted to discuss that's all.
yes, zedsmith...first and last thought on this..unwrapped and placed in glass front cabinet..very stylish and sculptural..; )
This makes me want to pull out the doll with the crocheted skirt that hides the spare roll and put it on the tank. The yarn was bright pink.
For everyday use, no. But when there are a ton of people in the house either for poker or holidays, I always have an extra roll on the tank. Guests, no matter how close, will not bring me aside and let me know the tp is low. TP roll on the tank is way easier!
Tacky.
I kinda like the environment, so no useless toilet bling for me
UGH. Just as bad as that stupid commercial that says "it's time to talk about what goes on in the bathroom, what you want from your toilet paper" REALLY???? It's toilet paper, nothing more. sheesh.
I like to keep a spare roll in sight, but my cats always knock it on the floor, which I find gross. My solution was to keep it inside an old 100 CD spindle.
What fiona said.
Will not buy Cottonelle for a long time because of this one, even though the advert is inane [insane?] is not even in running as worst or most insulting. The container is ugly and not least bit clever.
Eek! These are some harsh critics. Yup, I hate these promotional toilet paper covers but I also wouldn't leave my toilet paper rolls bare on the back of the toilet.
I have this:

I honestly thought it was a ridiculous (respecting your toilet paper?!) and foolish idea. It seemed to encourage more wastefulness...than storage. If clever storage of toilet paper was the motivation, wouldn't they have produced a more user and environmentally friendly product?
I have a tall glass cylinder next to the commode that I stack five rolls in. It looks clean, it's accessible and adds sparkle to the room.
if, and i say if, i were going to put out one roll of toilet paper i think i would make more of a statement and display it under a nice glass cloche or something. classy, but no extra trash. this is just another waste of time and resources. cottonelle might make better use of all of their money and time by making a more healthy and environmentally sound toilet paper product.
Absolute trash. I like the bell jar idea. It's TP people! It is OK if it's NAKED! Jeez next thing you know they will start selling us water in plastic bottles WITH pop tops so we don't even have to twist off the cap! BRILLIANT! I LOVE AMERICA!!!
Why keep only one extra roll on hand? That just seems silly. We just have a shelf with like 6 of 'em on. It's a functional bathroom, albeit a classy white-black-and-chrome one.
i despise when people "decorate" their toilet tank...
it's a coffee can that's been decorated, people. really. it looks like a 3rd grade project.
I won't buy one, but I WILL start scouring eBay for a crochet toilet paper cozy with a doll head and arms. Remember those? Yikes! LOL
